Hate to pop your bubble, but the fender tag should read "32" under the "ab" in order to be a 4bbl car! "31" is V8, but only a 2 bbl car originally!! Awesome find tho!!!
 
Bubble not popped.
That would be a 31 in 65 and a 32 in 66 for the 4bbl commando engine.

My first dart and a definite project but a cool find I believe.
There's a reason I have early a body nerd under my avatar.
 
And addicted to unusual and gut feelings.
Was one of the original apple shareholders that allows me to take chances on the undervalued (for now earliy a's)lol.
 
Going for look similar to this so I can focus on mechanicals and keep her looking cool but not get killed dollar wise on paint cost.

Will take a week to organize parts I'm keeping vs stuff not needed in my build.
Should have some cool stuff including many original 273 commando parts advertised soon.

Will start thread in restorations section and try to keep pics. of progress on her.
Pulled seats today to treat floorboards with por-15 and all but drivers front are salvageable so got motivated to try one section.
Cleaned bottom rear with apple cider then a low bleach mixture and dyed it.
Came out great.

That hacking as you call it was done way back in 1973 by lil johns performance in terra haute, Indiana and is actually quite clean.Tape around area was put there by gent that started resto. a few yrs. back to protect oldschool fenderwell headers he had ceramic coated.
Found some cool info. under back seat and researched. Car was campaigned in 1/8 mile at action dragway(now crossroads) in terra haute, indiana until the mid 80's.
Pretty cool and my build will be as nostalgia bracket racer not a back to original commando car.
