This thread reminds me of that one Andy Griffiths show where Aunt Bea made her uneatable pickles.:rofl:I'm sure your pickles will turn out better than her's did.
I can't deny my old mind being a smorgasbord of BS. Very first thing that crossed my mind, Wonder who first coined the phrase "Kerosene Cucumbers" for the Barney character?
My favorite canned cucumber is found on McDs sandwiches. Very thinly sliced, hardly any seasoning or vinegar there. I don't think everything needs to be all revved up so it tastes like something other than what it is. Seems like the pickled cucumber is the king of "revved up".
We just canned the small number of apples off our one tree. Wife was bound and determined to put a bit of cinnamon in them so Rather than argue I simply said, "Keep it light". I've already eaten the first of 9 pints right from the jar. Nearly as good as fresh off the tree.
I'll add this, we cut down a couple of large limbs to bring the apples down. About Feb' I'll have dried apple wood for smokin' a Turkey and some bacon. :)

I was busy in the kitchen again yesterday. I picked some more cucumbers from the garden that never stops giving the day before. I have a new to me recipe that is low in vinegar and salt which have always been my biggest complaints about homemade dills. It is a polish recipe and will stay good in the bottle for a long time. Five quarts should last me a little while. I won't get to taste how good they are until October 9th. Here's for crossing my fingers. lol Thanks to Demonracer for sending me another recipe that I am going to try in a couple of weeks.
