I make sure to thank everyone that extends a courtesy to me. I never want to be a burden to others nor do I want them to regret doing me a favor.
It pisses me off to hold a door, let someone in front of me or do a kindness and get ZERO response. It is **** manners to refuse to acknowledge the efforts of another person.
I'm obnoxious and offensive in many ways, I admit but to those that offer basic human kindness and respect, they absolutely get it back.

I live in small town USA, so we wave at all cars we see also. Whether we know them or not.

When I saw the article it hit home because last summer I was at a pedestrian crossing in a shopping complex and I thought an suv was going to stop, I assumed he saw me.

I suddenly felt a tug on my arm and a man who was well over 6 foot tall grabbed my arm and pulled me back as the SUV didn't stop and brushed by about 15 to 20mph

The tall man confronted the SUV driver and the driver said he didn't see me.

Since then I wave and make sure they see me, because I'm about eye level with the grille on a lot of these SUVs and trucks, and plus to be friendly

I wave if someone lets me in when I'm driving. I always, always, get eye contact when crossing in front of anyone. Half these morons are doing something else while driving. That's why these new cars have all this safety BS.

If you came to Alabama you would see that we have respect that was taught us growing up. And yes I wave at everyone and open the door especially for all ladies. If I am seated and some elderly person could use the seat I gladly get up and give it to them. Joe

Yeah. ^^ My daughter lived in Auburn Al. for about 5 years. We would go down there to visit a few times a year. When we drove she would say, Dad, when the light turns green, if the car doesn't move, wait a few seconds more than usual, they will get going. Found it to be true. Being from NY, when the light changes, you better get moving or the horn is up your butt. A lot of polite waves even with NY plates on my car..

It's best to assume drivers don't see ya, lots of blind spots plus distraction for drives. (especially left hand turns).

I generally wave/nodded/thank, but also get mad at peeps that stop to let you cross when there's no need for it, like their the only car and would be quicker and easier if they just went by.

Back when my daughter played fast pitch travel softball, the team she was on was in Indianapolis playing for the ASA National Championship. We had some free time so we were driving around some residential neighborhoods and passed by a gentleman who was out at end of his driveway at his mailbox. He waved and smiled as we drove by.
Being in the Midwest for the first time from SoCal, my 15 year-old daughter looked at me and asked, "Who's he and why did he wave at us?"
I explained that people in other parts of the country and friendlier than back home.

It's not odd to see 2 cars going in opposite directions stopped blocking the road, or a car stopped talking to a pedestrian. We usually take advantage of the approaching car to end the conversation....But nobody ever honks if we don't move immediately. Friendly place.

I'm the old man that walks around the neighborhood three times a day, sometimes more.
I wave, and everyone waves back when driving by.
Lotsa times they start waving first if I'm not paying attention.

I also cross streets and parking lot areas perpendicular to the path of cars so I clear the driving area/ street as quickly as possible.

Neighboring Virginia has law requireing a Mandatory stop for pedestrians entering a crosswalk.

A few years ago I was crossing a fairly busy street, in a marked and sign indicated crosswalk, looked to my right, all clear, looked to my left, one suv about a block away. I stopped and waited, standing right on the edge of the curb, I'm 6 ft 7 inches tall and around 275 pounds, so not really hard to see. Sure enough, suv just rolls on through like nothing, so I flip him the bird after he passed by and I'm crossing the street. Damned if the **** doesn't turn around and come racing back towards me! So I stood waiting for him, he pulls up and starts pissing in my ear about flipping him off! I said "wow, that's amazing that you are able to see one little finger, but yet you couldn't see me standing there waiting to cross, you dumb motherfucker!" Then he threatens to get out and punch me, I said, I am right here fuckhead, bring it on! Of course he turned pussy and drove off.

Yup. I also wave at any law enforcement that we happen to pass by. But they all wave at us first if we're in Vixen cause they all know who we are.

You wouldn't look as good with a big "GMC" stamped in the middle of your forehead.
