hey guys i got a 76 duster was gonna clone into a 340 6 pack but i cant get a motor for under lik 1,500 seems to be ... and im only 18yrs old and thats alot of money for me even tho i do work,, any way if i find a motor from a junk yard ,,get one of these motors to work for me. 71 - 78 dodge vans came with 318 - 360 - 400 - 440 is it just about the same block that came in the muscle cars ? but im not gonna do a 318 . thanks for the help guys - angelo

yea it will work, of course you will have to change the oil pan and pick-up tube. may as well go ahead and throw a oil pump in while you have the pan off. and you will probably have a couple headaches with the mounts but nothing that a little home fabrication can't fix

The 360 has a longer stroke than the 340, and maybe a larger bore. I don't have the info here at work.

I'm building a 408 Stroker out of a 360 that was once in a van. The older the block, the more like a car motor from that era, I believe. But as stated, you will have to change the oil pan, etc.

I'd pick up a 360 if you get the chance. Probably a couple hundred bucks for a runner. You could also look for one from a land yacht. Maybe a Fury or Polara or similar.

bore x stroke on a 360 is 4.00 x 3.58 - 340 is 4.04 x 3.31.

Very unlikely you'll find a 340 in a yard. Better bet is a 360 from a donor vehicle, these can be had in vans, trucks, and older mopar passenger cars. Be sure to get a running specimen if your intention is to flop it your car without doing much to it.

If you get a truck or van motor you'll have to change the pan and oil pump pickup to a passenger car version, and the pan will have to come from a 360, the pans on 273/318/340 are the same, 360's are unique due to the rear main bearing cap size.

This is a 360 going into my son's '74 Duster.

It came out of his grandparents' mid-80s Dodge Maxivan. As stated, the oil pan and oil pick-up tube will need replacing. Also, the van/truck exhaust manifolds won't work in your A-body, because the driver side exhaust flange is in the middle of the "log" and points straight down at the steering gearbox. A car exhaust manifold has the exhaust flange back towards the rear of the engine. You'll also need to get a V8 K-frame or spend a little dough with Schumacher Creative Services (www.engine-swaps.com) for a swap kit to modify the engine mounts.

If you get the 360, see if you can snag the radiator, too (if it's still good). If you're lucky, it will be 22" and fit right in place on the radiator support. Don't throw away your slant six fan shroud. It will also fit - all you have to do is flip it over 180 degrees and trim off a little excess plastic. Did it last weekend.

Small block engines are;

273, 318,340 and 360.

These are excellent engines to swap into a A body.

Big blocks are; 350, 361, 383, 400, 413, 426 wedge, not HEMI and the 440

These are a tighter squeeeezzzeee into the car, but not as bad as some think. Weight of the big block can be offset with lightening of the typical parts, intake, headers, heads, water pump and housing. This will bring the weight back down to about the weight of a all iron S/B.

IF your car is a slant 6, swap kist are out there. These are widely used and very good. Click here; http://www.engine-swaps.com/

is it worth it to buy a 360 ??? or to do the swap in the duster ?
I think it is. For a well manored street car that can produce decent mileage or up the ante to some HP. 400 HP is easy. HP parts are cheap.

well just found out i can get a 360 For 400$ from a 1977 dodge b200 van good deal or wat ?
Or WHAT? LOL, I agree with the fellas above. If you can here it run or get your money back if it doesn't........
Taking engines out of a van is a royal pain.

As far as the rad goes, if the van's rad has the dimentions to fit into the Duster, that would be news to me and worth the time to grab. It is more likely 3 row as the Duster's often came with 2 row rad.'s. Not allways, but often.
My OE /6 Duster's rad has no problem cooling a lightly sprinkled 318.

its from a junkyard but this is from July auto Wreckers on longisland they are VERY VERY good and one of the biggest and oldest around , my dad is very good friends with the owner if it Runs,,YES should because hes selling it if there is a problem with the motor .. he tells people hes not sure it runs he told me b4 it did run tho..... its a 1977 B-serious motor that the 360 is from as far as a rad i got one... and the motor is gonna be geting a rebuild .. with a whole bunch of goodies to go inside her =]

I think $400 is too much for a used junk yard 360 that you can't hear run. Also, make sure the motor still turns and is not seized up. You might want to drop the oil pan and look up in the cylinders to check for cylinder wall scuffing and rust.
