I was having symptoms of a vaccum leak, and i was getting tired of not being able to find one, so i tried taking off the extra seal i added to my gas cap (so it wouldnt spill any out when i make a right turn) and it worked...... in 65 did they not have ventilated gas tanks? and could that really have been my problem?

Sounds like it has a vented cap mabby. When you had the extea seal on the cap did it make a sucking sound when you took the cap off after it had been running? That is a good sign that your tank is not venting right.

not that i remember. my biggest concern now, may not be a problem. but it only runs smoothly when the oil pressure is around 40psi when hot idle. its a 73 318cu with a 4bbl carter carb. should it be that high?

OK; it only idles good at 40 psi? What is the rpm? What is your manifold(not carb) vacuum? Psi has nothing to do with idle, even though yours sounds good, if it the about 700 rpm at idle.

it idles at around 1000 rpm. if i have it lower than that, it studders, but keeps goin. and im not sure about the manufold. i think its stock to a 73 barracuda. i didn't put it together. i can look tomorrow. i just know its a 180 degree one, witch has nothing to do with vacuum, i know.
