Looks like I am done with PayPal. Went to load a couple of bucks to pay for a zippo lighter (with my ship on it from the Navy to replace the one that was stolen) and now they want picture ID, my address and SSN. In this day and age, I'm not sending it to them. I don't care, it ain't right.

So, looks like I will be either looking for a new way to move money or do without. Not playing this game.

Might not be able to get my souvenir like I hoped, but it isn't worth this hassle to me.

I've never "sent" PayPal a photo id. Having said that, PayPal/Efray is no different than any other money grubbing bank.............

That is crazy. I have been using PayPal for years without giving them that info. Maybe it is a new requirement. If they ask me for that, the can kiss my butt.

Did you go to paypal website or just click on a link that came in a email...?

alot of scammer sent links that looks like paypal....always sign in at their website...

^^^^ that's what I was thinking ^^^^^

PayPal is still the best there is as far as I'm concerned

I was logged in to my account and clicked "add money" when I got a notice that PayPal needed to verify my identity. I went so far as to give them my birthday and last four of my SSN when the site came back with "unable to verfiy" and disabled my account.

Based on the what I found on Google, they have been doing it to people since at least 2013.

I never click on emailed links.

Really wishing now that I hadn't even given what I did. Far as I am concerned they can take a flying leap. Only waiting until I know how to proceed with the eBay purchase I made before I close the account (assuming I can even do that). Glad there isn't any more than $25 in the account, I will see it as money well spent to keep my information from them if I lose it. So beyond ticked off.

I never keep any money in my pay pal account , when I buy something I just have them take it directly out of my checking account or a credit card.

All they ever wanted from me was a verified checking account which was easy

find their phone number and CALL them. they can fix the problem. also, be careful of scammers getting in on the act.
look s to me if you have an account, they already have the ss # and all info, they just need to verify you are you!???? LOL
yes they are a feebay BANK, so as Jessie James said, no good SOB's!!! ????LOL
paypal to me is really very convenient for small purchases. I would never pay feebay and paypal their $$$ lets say to sell a car on there!!!!!!!

This is what I found this morning went you click on add money....

nothing about picture ID...

I use paypal, but only with a credit card that I don't use for any other purpose, and with an assigned credit limit and credit protection.

I don't use them as a "bank", and I do not keep a balance in a paypal account.

Picture ID. :dontknow:

Haven't heard of that one, from Pay Pal.

You could send them a picture of anyone, and how the heck would they know that it's you?

Folks, NEVER use your checking account to back up your PayPal purchases. IF you get scammed, ripped off, or otherwise screwed out of money, and that said money came out of your personal bank account... It's GONE. Forever. Your best protection is to back up your PayPal with a credit card, and do it exactly like Frankie described above in his post. Your credit card company will replace your funds if you were scammed. Your bank will only give you an apology and that's the most they will give.

I got that too. So I gave them that info and then PayPal said they couldn't verify my ID with that info so then they asked for the rest of the stuff, including picture ID. I'd bet money if you give them that info, you will be restricted as well.

I set up a separate account at my bank and linked it. I don't keep any money in the account, and it has no links to my regular account. I didn't have credit cards back then, and wont be giving them access to the one I have now. They kept asking, but I wont do it.

But no worries, soon as I figure out the ebay purchase, the account is getting closed.

Because they aren't verifying anything. They are just gathering info.

I haven't had that issue from PayPal yet. Probably something to do with it being a lighter and juveniles smoking. I think it is so ridiculous that after years of being Jack Sixpack on facebook the want an "official ID" showing that is my name! ID for banking yes but for a freaking social media site? I'm out!

The problem is, the ebay purchase isn't even associated with the payapl account as of yet. So I don't think it has anything to do with what I am trying to pay for.

Either way, I am done.

whenever a situation like this surfaces in "real life" I use my CPL as identification, just to keep them on their toes

maybe you should stick to the old "name rank and serial number"

Unless you have a specific account ONLY for PP. That's what I do, money comes from sales, some I leave at PP, some I transfer to my checking, once it hits there, I transfer it to my savings account which IS NOT connected to PP.

I received a letter from Paypay about a month or so ago explaining they would be splitting from Ebay. In this letter they explained some of their policies would be changing, including their privacy policy. I reviewed the new privacy policy and was a little disturbed since it seemed to say they would normally use it for their general business needs, but they could provide your info to just about any business if they felt it was in their interest. This may be standard practice these days, but it appeared their new privacy policy is overly liberal. Probably explains all the darn phone calls we seem to get from all over the country these days trying to sell us something.
