Rear drum brakes had flat spring clips from the factory that fit down over the wheel studs. What were they for? They always got thrown away when the drums were pulled off. If they are needed, where can you get them??

They are called Tinnerman nuts and are used to hold the drums on the axles as the vehicle goes down the assembly line.
 
Yep , Vibration in material handling systems could shake a drum off of a rear axle assembly. Parts this size dropping from overhead material handling wouldn't be good.
