I am looking for an easy way to get the gear oil without a lot of effort.
Anyone used a pump or some suction device to get most of it out?
Mine looks to be in good shape, just being lazy and not wanting to make any extra work for me.

I’ve siphoned it out the fill hole before. You’re probably only getting about 80% capture rate doing it that way. But if you’re just swapping old fluid out for new that’s fine. I just used a cheap transfer pump from harbor freight.

Yes, an inexpensive suction pump works fine for getting most of the old fluid out.

Drive the car and get the oil hot, comes out easier and smells better!

shop vac rigged up to a 5 gallon bucket with hose attached that will go in the fill plug hole. it's just an idea, you can work the details out. what I envision is the separator used on a blasting cabinet to keep the dust down. or what's used in a wood shop. maybe try it with a "disposable" shop vac first.

An idea guy!
I can't imagine what my shop vac would smell like after that!

So what I did was turn it upside down and tilted it up on one side till it ran out.
I was thinking it would come out the vent hole but it came out the axle tube.
I got a lot out, it didn't look to awful, but still stinks!
I will let it sit tonight and then turn it over.

I’ve driven one of the lowest retaining studs back in with a nut on the last five threads. You can drain the oil then pull the stud back in place. I’ve done this before with no problems.

Next time mine is empty/apart, I’m gonna drill a hole and tap in a 1/4” NPT. (Or is that 1/8” plug?) I’ll offset it to one side to not interfere with the center when jacking.

I would put in a 3/8 at least. I'm sure you know you can get allen/ recessed square plugs. Like the ones used to plug the oil galleries

Thanks for all the ideas FABO folk.
Got 95% out and just finished the rust treatment.
Ready for paint.
