Ecs bypass

I have a 71 Duster and recently put new gas tank in. Replaced with original tank oem. I have ecs system and after running car for 30 minutes my fuel filter drains to about half full. Wondering what causes this? Or could I bypass the ecs system all together? Thanks!

Does the car have a delay when restarting? The fuel filter by design is not supposed to be full. There is always supposed to be room for expansion as gas gets hot. Without that room, gas would expand and push gas into the carburetor and flood the engine. What is the car doing that you suddenly want to start ripping systems off of it?

It is at my mechanic. He is tuning it. It sat for 14 years in storage and getting it going again. Changed the gas tank and runs good for approximately 30 minutes then he says the feul filter has hardly anything in it. Probably going to replace fuel lines and pump as well. No delay when starting. I'm not real familiar with this system or how it works..

1...Don't worry about the appearance of the filter, fuel wise
2...If you think it is starving for fuel, run it until you think the problem is at hand, than go back and with your ear near the tank, or if you are deaf like me, hold a hose to your ear, and twist the cap loose. If you hear air going IN, (not out) then the tank is NOT venting

ECS systems changed year by year. I don't remember what year got rid of the extra vapor tank/ cylinder in the trunk. It is possible things are mismatched and not venting. Frankly, my recommendation would be to modify the filler tube and convert it to vent like 69/ earlier, AKA a vent tube out of the filler neck You can find diagrams of them in the service manuals, which you can download, free, from MyMopar.com
