edelbrock heads

Like I said back in post #4, go to a local shop with a bench, unless you don't have one local; I understand that that is a possibility. I wouldn't get real hung up on the numbers, they are really only generalities and not ment to be absolute.

I know Hughes lists charts of flow up to .700 lift, intake of just under/just over 300 cfm. When you originally bought the heads; do you remember how much power they stated the heads would support?

You stated that you are looking to do a cam up grade.......what do you have now and what are you looking at to move up to?
i have 340,3.79inch crank,=395ci
edelbrock full cnc stage 3 heads
10.9 compression
comp cam 236@50,565int,570ex solid roller
1.5 roller rockers
vg coupe A body,3400lb.street driven car
3000 converter
27inch et streets
so far best et 11.5@115mph
4.11 gears
with full exhaust street trim.
looking at cam change or maybe 1.65 roller rockers for 606 lift. What do you guys think?love to run 11.00 or 10.9
when i purchased the heads Hughes stated they are good for 580hp

I think you’ll get there with a 20° duration jump and a converter too match

I have almost the same motor 394 ci , 10.9 comp.
But my cam is 255/266 @.050 ,703 lift with 1.65 T&D rockers and Indy 360-2 heads.
On 91 octane pump gas it made 662 hp, 533 tq. I have ran a best of 6.21@110 on drag radials through the mufflers at 2950lbs.

that sounds pretty tuff!,is that a roller cam?
never put mine on the dyno what hp do you think it would make

That's 1/8 mile , that combo 's damn close .
AND what does the vehicle ,weigh ? That's more relevant that horsepower: Power to weight ratio ,torque multiplication, and how to hook it up ,smoothly.
Beating mass horsepower, everyday of the week..
Make it easy : Suspension setups ,front and back ...driveline (stick ,autocratic, stall converter, rear end gears )
AND WHAT YOU WANT IT TO DO :)

Car will run way better than that with an 8 inch convertor and bigger cam.
To give you an idea, i have a 360, mildly ported eddies( far from all out) 4.10 gears, 28 inch tire, flat tappet cam, and am at 10.4 compression. Using a 727 currently. Car has been 11.20's at 118.40 so far at 3300 pounds.
The cam i went to would be perfect for you( if you put a real convertor in the car) Howards 260/264 on a 106, in at 102, about same lift you currently have( which is fine)..... rarely does changing rocker arm ratios show up on an ET slip.
Depends on what you want to do with the car, but you have enough with a couple of changes to run well down in the 10's( if those heads are indeed good)

Given Hughes' history - get them flowed by your local performance machine shop. Reality might be different than published results.

^^Good advice IMO^^

I agree with some other guys that your money is better spent on more cam and converter. My 408 with Curtis Boggs ported Edelbrocks, 11.4-1, 260/264 @ .050, .633/.628" lift flat solid, 727, 9.5" converter that flashed 5200, 4.10 gears and a 28" tire went 6.58 in the 1/8 at 3240# on pump 93. It ran 6.70 in street trim.

Get them flowed! Hughes did mine last year and as many guys here know, they didn't flow anywhere CLOSE to their claim. They did a really good job murdering the short side and killing low end torque.

Don't mean to bash, but since I have first hand dyno experience.........I guess I am bashing.

Hope the OP has a better experience than I did!

My heads were hand ported stage 3s by Hughes in Dec 2006. The peak flow numbers are 299 at .600 lift.2.08 ,1.6 valves. I run their older version of the AS 276/280 solid flat tappet cam . Car runs 10.0s over 131in the heat with the 410 cid motor and the car weighs 3093#s.
Stage 3 port work needs a big cam to take advantage of the cylinder head.

Awesome, wheelsup! They must have been doing good work back then. I think the key phrase there is HAND PORTED. Now it's all CNC. I think the set up and/or operator is really important, CNC-wise. I'd keep those heads like a friggin heirloom. Not easy to get smallblock heads that REALLY make power unless you go W2 or better.

Glad to hear they did ya good.

I have a set of hand ported stage2s from Hughes with a flow sheet. I believe it “says” 277 in and like 220 ex at .600

idk what the flow is only stage 1 if you will, just the hughes cnc superprep eddy heads and their [email protected] cam in a pretty basic 4"stroker 10.60's so far 3450lbs 4.10 750cfm smallish 1 5/8 tti step headers,i'd say do your change and don't worry too much about what they flow for what your looking to do will get you there
