were orange, blue and aqua blue/green all used on '69 340's?
anybody have original pics?

Oh man, will the 1969 340 engine color controversy ever die?

I have a Chrysler document that spelled out what was coming for the 1969 model year. One section listed the paint color for every engine used in 1969. The 340 was listed as being turquoise.

I have owned two 1969 'cuda 340's. (used not new) One car built in April and the other in June, 1969. Both engines were some shade of blue. (due to years of heat/fading it was hard to determine exactly what shade) The first one I got when it was 10 years old and the engine was corporate blue. But it had been cosmetically repainted on the outside surfaces. Overspray in areas that were protected from a casual repaint looked to be turquoise. I've also seen several very high quality 1969 resto 340's and a survivor at major Mopar shows with turquoise paint.

1. Because I have seen no evidence of red or orange paint on my two 340's.
2. I have a copy of a Chrysler document from the summer of 1968 that says 1969 340's will be turquoise.
3. My 1969 'cuda 340 is going to be turquoise unless I see proof otherwise. (If it ever gets that far :)

..i know this has been argued to death.
i have a Year One catalogue that says all three were used but i would like to see some original untouched examples....

I thnk it depends in what color spark plug wires you plan on using. Red on orange is no good. Blue on blue is boring unless it's turquoise, then you have coordination. Yellow looks OK on red but so-so on either blue :D

I beleve that red and turquoise were the pre 70 colors with street hemi orange coming with 70 model year in dodge 340s

what i have seen and read was:

68-69 were turquoise or actually red. most guys say theres were turquoise though..

70- early 71 orange

late 71-73 blue..

I went with the orange in my 69. Is it correct? I don't care it is what I like.

No not original. But if you like it, fine.

69 340 is turquoise

68 340 is red.

70 is orange.

early 71 is orange

late 71 is blue

i sure see a lot of blue '69 340's and that's o.k.
we build our cars the way we like, but i was wondering what was actually correct.

Over the winter I bought a July '69 cast date, April '70 build date 340. Came out of the Windsor plant.
Obviously repainted on the outside (orange), but when I pulled the 90 degree oil filter adapter, it's blue inside...

***Note on 1969 and 1970 340LA engines - many were painted Street Hemi Orange - the list below says they all were - for any 340 engine that appears to be more orange than red - if you know it was original - then use the P4349216
