Engine specs on a 2001 360 R/T

Where can I find them? There is a 2001 dakota RT in the yard by me and I'm curious if it's worth grabbing for a swap. I picked up another 67 Valiant that I can modify and I'm looking at reasonable engines for a swap. Can I use the older 904 and converter on it? I already have carbs and TTI headers for an LA. I will be using a 73-6 k frame. I don't know anything about FI so it will be carbed. Can you use an aftermarket fuel pump at the tank or do you have to run stock style? The Dakota is still complete,is there anything else I should grab with the motor? Thanks
 
The only thing I found different about them was the cam. What is the CR on the 360 mag?
 
In order to use the 2000 5.9 in my old ride, ('79 Magnum) I used stock style engine mounts, a passenger car oil pan and used a Edelbrock in line fuel pump for carbs. But the kind of fuel pump you use, manufacturer, is your choice as long as it is for a carb application.
Connecting the engine to the converter was a B&M flex plate designed just for this exact Magnum balanced engine to a neutral balanced converter for the 904.
You should have no problem getting this plate.

However, somewhere along the line, I was told that the flex plate on the Magnum is set up for a neutral balanced converter. So a plate purchase from B&M is not needed, IF this is true. Check around with members here. MagnumMopar I thinkis the screen name you need to contact.

Compression ratio should be 9.0-1. But I have not put a mic to it.

I have an Alt. issue that I have not yet addressed.

I see you had to relocate your oil filter too. Is yours carb'd? The 360 mag is neutral balanced? I have a pretty good rep with this yard so I'll see what they want for the engine. Thanks

Check out the 8-1/4 rear end in that truck. My son's came with 3.91 SG from the factory. But you'll have to deal with the odd bolt pattern.

His is a 98 Std Cab, Std Bed, Dakota R/T, 5.9 Magnum. He runs 13.7's in the quarter. it weighs about 4000 lbs. Bolt-ons are M1 Intake, larger throttle body, tweaked computer, headers and he runs drag radials now.

Good idea. Dis assemble the trucks rear and pirate the possible sure grip and gears to re-use in the older 8-1/4 rear. It will all swap over.

But isn't there a spline difference?
 
hey guys, the RT has a slightly larger cam than the 5.2 although many here will argue that they are the same as a regular 5.9. Either way, I would step up one cam size anyway, just to get a few more ponies out of it.

The flex plate should have a counter balance on it. The balanced converters were earlier years.

Kevko pan and either v belt front cover or serp.If you get the am eccentric bolt from hipotek and run LA cover, you can use a mech fuel pump, other wise its electric.

FI is super easy if you ever decide to do it. Harness and flash are under a grand. Tank, pump and lines anothe $550 but its sooo nice its worth it. The FITech systems are now under a grand too but require same tank set up.

RT will have 9 1/4 not 8 1/4, dont waste your time, grab a Furd 8.8 disk brake rear, 5x as strong and free rear disks. 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern.

I run a RPM & a Edelbrck 650 AVS. The 5.9 is a external balanced engine with (as said before) a weighted flex plate. IF you do not have the flex plate you need to get one or a B&M plate.
 
Most R/Ts have 9-1/4s. It's a 6 lug rear from '91-up. It's a narrow rear that I think's actually got the same perches, but that 6 lug part can make it more of a hassle to overcome than just getting an 8.8 or 8-1/4. The newer 8-1/4s are 29-spline IIRC, '96 or '97 was the changeover and saw them go up two counts in spline. Cherokees have the same bolt pattern and perch distance- gears should be tolerable to great. You'll want a 44 or 8.25 though.

An R/T didn't have a special cam, just a regular 5.9. OBD-II should have the balanced flexplate- especially after '98.
