"Rock and Roll" seems to be somewhat nebulous, however.

IMO Rush best 3 man rock band.

When they first came out I had friends that were really in to them but it took me awhile to fully appreciate how good they are. Of Course this being a car forum this is probably the more appropriate song from them.

Reading through this thread brings back memories rocking in 1976 to Styx Grand Illusion in my first car a 63 nova ss with a 327 4spd. Man those were the days 8 track with my dad's living room speakers in the back seat.
I'd trade the 80's for that year again.

I'm ashamed to say for the record, that I did that EVH treatment to my 1962 Kalamazoo, and the other guitar my buddy is playing I sold for $400. It is a Les Paul "fretless wonder", now valued at about $12k. Here it is in my buddies collection who owns it today! Of course he will not sell it back, even after "borrowing" it for the last 30 years!!

I thought it was a Les Paul or an Aria ProII...I also see a Gibson Goldtop and some SG’s, Flying V and Firebird in the mix!!! Lots of Dough tied up in that picture!!!

Rock and Roll wouldn’t be what it’s is today or then without them!!!!

Also the Les Paul Jr. that's been owned by just about every musician I know, at one time or another! Oh, the guitars I let slip threw my hands!! Don't do that anymore, now I save everything I get!

So for me I was fortunate to grow up around the music biz.
My mom's boyfriend was an amp guru.
He worked on anyone from the seattle area's amps that was known.
One of the guitarists from Queensryche used to come over in his 69 gto judge Chris Degarmo.
For my 16th birthday in 87 I got to go backstage at AC/DC Queensryche at the Tacoma dome.
I also got to go to Queensryches studio and watch them rehearse for the Empire tour and play operation mindcrime in it's entirety. I think that was in 89 or 90 can't remember ?
The studio was in Redmond off willows road .
That was the best !!!

I always thought Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime was the quintessential 80's rock album. SO much good stuff on there:

Empire came out in 1990.

I was big hair back in the 70's so when the 80's came along I was right in it. So many good shows, too many bands to list. I've been in a few bands over the years, worked production for a band for 13 years and started working as a union stagehand in '95 (Blues Traveler was my first show, Thanksgiving weekend). Cool to work with all these bands I listened to back in the day because they're quite a bit more sociable now than they were in their heyday (Tesla's Jeff Keith is a TRIP!) and of course, throw in a new band here and there.

My pick for obscure '80s band is Cats In Boots:
