Federal Power steering pump cap

Any chance that anyone has a steering pump cap for a Federal pump. It's the round neck. The cap has a fill stick indicator on it. My gasket finally bit the dust and it leaks. Thanks

I solved the poblem. The gas tank cap gasket is the same size as the power steering pump gasket so I took one off of my gas tank caps and put it on the pump cap.

Dave ... Glad you found a fix !
Whatever you do , do not toss that pump's cap , as they're obsolete !

I had one on my '72 Dart ( which I bought in '89 ) , and its indicator stick was broken-off ( prior owner did it ) .
I cruised down to the local pick-a-part , found another cap with its stick intact , pocketed the sucker , and installed it out in their parking lot
( I knew I'd make my $1 entrance fee back :tongue1: ! ).

Unfortunately , I tossed -- literally , chucked -- the cap with the broken indicator into the Rio Hondo *ker-plunct!* .

Not much later , I found out that those caps are valuable ( D'OH!) ; that Stant ( the o.e.m.-supplier) never made 'em available to the public ; they were assembly-line-specific caps !!

So , please , keep that sucker even if its seal goes bad . Glad you found a fix for it :hello1:

The funny thing is, my maintenance manual tells me that the 273 and 318 in 67 used a
.94 (Saginaw) oval neck pump and you check the fluid with a did stick, however I have identified my pump as a Chrysler/Federal a .96/1.06 round neck and if you check the fluid level with engine cold it should be at the bottom of the neck when hot it should be about 1/2 way up the neck. Based on pully size, neck and brackets and does not have a removal bolt on the pully shaft, it is definately a Federal. So why does it have a dip stick. I found in a couple of situations that the book was not correct or that they mixed and matched parts. About 6 years ago before I had rebuilt the engine, I had given my power steering pump to a friend and traded for a later pump only to find out that the pump would not work with the brackets that I had so I got my pump back 2 years later and rebuilt it. Maybe the caps got switched. I dont know at this point if my cap was vented or not. Maybe my original cap that went with the pump I have did not have a dip stick. I am wondering if I can find an original. I am only discovering this now because of the rubber seal in the cap. I am wondering if there is still an original cap without a dip stick? Anyone.
