Getting ready to build a 360..In order to run floater pistons on a 360 rod, do I have to change the stock or pressed rod bushings?

Thanks,Bubba

There is no such thing as a floater only piston. Some pistons have grooves for floating pin lock rings while others don't. Rod's can be floaters (they have bushings)or pressed pin (they don't have bushings). To use std. 360 rods (non floating pin) all you need to do is have them pressed onto the piston just like you would a stock 360 piston. You can have your rods bored out and bushed to make them full floating but it's not cheap. I'd replace them with some SCAT I-beams before I spent that much money on them.

I also know of some guys that run no bushings an have the rods honed for pin clearance to make them floaters.
Personally - unless you are really going road racing or big abuse - floating pins on a 360 aren't necessary. But if I was to do it- I'd have them bushed.

I agree with fishy....by the time you have them resized, good rod bolts and small end bushings installed....I would put my money toward a good set of Scat rods.

Thanks for the info guys. I've done rebuilds in the past but didn't know if I could use floating pistons on standard 360 rods.I knew 340's are floaters..
