I knew these existed but had forgotten. Back in my 4x4 days, some of the Jeepers swapped them into Jeeps and Broncos. Toploaders, that is, before the OD boxes came out I think

I wonder? If these could be adapted using the "large bore" pilot bushing, as the input shaft is pretty short. They work well in Chivvys LOLOL

This one showed up on Phakebook for 200 bucks

The front cover will interchange with any 4 speed toploader.

There were aluminum case versions...I had several in stock several years ago.

"Back in the day" I tried out a Ford 1/2T 6 with one of these, don't remember how many miles was on it. Jumped out of gear LOL The guy selling it was like, "Gee never did THAT before!!"

Where have you heard that before?

All three did it. Chevy used both the 833 OD as well as a Saginaw version. That Ford unit is probably gettin pretty rare these days. How desirable, is another thing.

The gears, and brass-rings, inside that thing are pretty petite, designed for low-torque applications.Like 302s of yesteryear.
I think it would not last long behind a 360 in an off-road application.

The ones we called "top-loaders" had internal shift rails

The top loader that came behind my 271 horse 289 was the same as they put behind the 427 FEs. The OD versions came behind the smog motors in the late 70s according to my research.

Gm also used Mopar A833, some with an adapter plate, and some with a special "Chev" case, and they even used them in front of a few married transfer cases in 1/2T 4x4
