I am not sure why but I was just looking up on autozone dot com the air filter I need for my coronet and I am amazed to find the fram CA-305 air filter priced at $39.99 yet competitors equivalent are anywhere from 5 to 11 dollars.

Is fram really that good of a paper filter compared to other paper filters .....I am comparing paper filters only none of that k&N garbage.

Don't know about air filters but try this. I can't imagine anything different for their air filters.

Your $39.99 filter is a CA-305V not a CA-305. The CA-305V is designed and built as an original period correct filter was.

If you look down the page you will see the CA-305 is $7.49.
 
All paper filters, including K&N, leave somewhat to be desired. Foam filters are the best.
 
just wondering why you think that of K&N? have never had a problem with them....

because they are greasy and in my area we routinely have sand storms and brown outs so bad that when I park a car for any extended time I have to stuff rags in the air cleaner snorkels and exhaust pipes. So every K&N filter I have ever had turned into a greasy restricted dirtball within a very short time and they gouge you on the recharge kits.
 
Anything with an 20-35 ppi count works.

You can get the stuff bulk and DIY. Wash clean with soap and water. Old news in the turbo world. A tiny fleck of paper from a paper filter can destroy a blade.

I make my own. Glue it end to end, 1.5" thick, as tall as the air cleaner, inside, sits in the channel.

those are ugly filters ....looks like those triangle edelbrock ones that were floating around years back.

Sweeet ....is it a Saab 96 with a V4 ??
 
The only experience I ever had with a foam filter was one of those Edelbrock wire mesh deals. Gas fumes dissolved the foam and it got sucked in the engine. That cured me of foam filters. Plain paper for me.

yea I remember those filters and that was a bad deal. I had one crumble on a 383 that was parked .....luckily I caught it and was able to pull the carb and vacuum it all out.
 
The HKS filter material is not made from the same **** that the hood fire Edelbrock Bramuda Triangles are known for.

I use a piece of the foam inside a twin snorkel. You don't see it and it doesn't catch fire.

Interesting....I had one in a bike I rode daily in Phoenix...land of the dirt devil. Went 80k miles without cleaning it with no decrease in performance or mileage. I spoke with an engineer at K&N way back and hr told me not to bother cleaning it until it is covered with at least an 1/8" of crud. Recharge kits are way over priced....last one I bought was from a bike parts place, was there own brand. Was 1/3 the price of the K&N crap...

That's cool. You run your high tech hooha. I'm stickin with paper.
 

The K&N manual says things like:

"...clean and re-oil every 90,000-120,000 miles..."

and:

"...filtering capability is reduced until dirt particles start adhering to the oiled surface..."
 
I don't know about foam, I use paper. I use Wix if I can get em, same as NAPA, and O'Reallys carries Wix as well. I will NOT use Fram for any reason.
 
I don't care for the price of the fram six pack elements. What do you do? Nothing else looks right being a exposed and easily recognized part. The orange rubber and round holes in the metal screen gets my dollar.
But I agree they are a over priced filter.

yes I did see where a filter for a six pack with the air grabber type is over a hundred dollars ....I have also seen that mancini makes a re-pop for those ....the advantage to mancini is there is no hunting, its always available ....but huge ouch at almost 150 dollars for a filter :???:

The $39.99 CA-305V filter Rani first posted from Autozone is made with the orange rubber and round holes in the metal screen that you are talking about.
Have you checked with them for your six pack filter?

Thanks for the tip, will check into this. I haven't put the car on the road yet but had plans of using something cheaper for everyday use and the fram for pictures and such.
Sounds crazy but that's likely what I will do.
