I think im missing a freeze plug. Is there suppose to be one or two mini freeze plugs that go to the left and to the right of were the camshaft enters?

Nope all you should have to have is the cam plate over it. As far as I know chevy is the only ones who put freeze plugs there.

ook so I dont need anything for those 2 small holes? Hmm in the picture of how to Build a Small blocks Mopar its has them, But if I dont need them I guess Im good. Thanks

You can wait and let someone else chime in with there opinion. But we never run them in ours. We had a 360 done at a machine shop and they tapped those in there and made it where my cam plate didnt want to sit right.

there are two oil gallery that need to be plugged that are behind the cam thrust plate...

they usually come in the freeze plug kit...

some blocks has threaded bores, some have smooth bores and use plugs under the plate, some only use the plate. I use the threaded plugs, or the plate. I don't use the pressed cups. You also have a pressed in cup style oil plug above the #5 main cap.

never seen the two front oil galleries with threads from the factory...only seen them with the small plugs...

ok i put them in, but they move slightly, I guess when I put the plate on they will be held in place with the thrust plate. Thanks guys

drive them in more.. they are below the surface of the block, not even... Just watch you dont block off any other intersecting passage.

I think I'm mistaken on the threads.. I'm thinking big block I think.. Sorry...

they should go flush with the block...dont go deep...there is an oil passage on the passender side that would be blocked..

I just talked to my dad and he says you dont need the 2 press in plugs in the front behind the cam plate. We build all are own engines and we never use them the cam plate should block it off.

lol... it happens. Take a break, and I find writing down what im doing, in the order I do it in, still helps keep the jitters down. You can always just use the plate...

the freeze plug kit i use is the dorman 567-014 can be had at autozone ...

it has 3 small press in plugs...

1 each part number 555-0008 which measures .580 inches
2 each part number 555-0009 which measure .590 inches

looks like one is .010 smaller...probably should not use that one...LOL

never seen at small block without them....i always install them...would not trust the cam thrust plate to seal the oil passages in front of engine...

Just looked at mine I don't have them. The engine ran good, just took it out for a clean up and new gaskets. I will be putting it back in without them.

Let me make sure we are all talking about the same holes. The came plate doesn't come close to these holes. Are you guys saying these should be plugged?
