As some of you may know I had recently applied for a tow truck driver position that I didn't get. But was offered a battery/tire service position that I said I'd take.
I had been working for the same company driving truck and doing warehouse work for 18yrs and got laid off a little over a yr ago. Two months ago they called me and offered me my job back and I said yes. Well I had been calling them every week to see when I was going to start and they kept telling me "I'm not sure but it's going to happen" A driver was out for surgery and was going to be out for at least 6 mos so they were offering me a 6mo guarantee of work. If it got busy I would be able to stay on. Well I talked to the guy that was my immediate supervisor yesterday and he told me that I could go online and fill out the application (standard procedure to go back, had to do it once before) and should be starting in 2 weeks. He said that they weren't sure when or even if the other guy was coming back. He had a couple vertabrae fused in his back. I'll have to call him to see if I'd be starting as a new hire with no vacation time and starting rate or if I'd be able to come back where I was. And am pretty sure they won't be giving a length of employment guarantee. I'm guessing that he won't be able to give me the answer because he's not the top of the food chain. The guy that is is sort of an absentee boss and that's prob why stuff has taken so long. He also said he has no idea what shift or what exactly I'll be doing. I had been working 8 pm to 4:30 am for yrs. If I have to start from new hire the pay on both jobs would be close, but top rate at my old job will be $3+ an hr more.
So I guess at this point I'll do the aplication and see if I can get any answers.
I would need to get a Dot card for my old job and I already had a slight problem getting one for the new job thats why they didn't give me the tow job. My bp was high but I'm already on med and have cut out 2/3 of my :coffee2: The old job was 1/2 away the new job is 15 min. Old job sunday night or mon thru fri. New job will req work on a sat or sun. I guess we'll see what I can find out on the old one. I could be back unemployed in 3mo? 6mo? who knows. There is one guy there that is like 70 and he's been saying he's gonna retire for a few yrs.
