fuel guage reading

I thought my fuel sending unit was not working, but lately I noticed my guage reads possibly backwards? When full tank guage reads empty as fuel is used it seems to move toward middle? Is it possible connections at tank are backwards? It has new tank but I did not put it in and electrical in car is not great anyway. I hope to get a rewire kit and do this winter if I can. Anyone with expertise have a word of advice?

The sender is probably getting worn out. Sometimes you can repair them....other times you just need to buy new. Make sure the ground strap is in place and has a good connection.
