Just reached 100 miles on my freshley rebuilt 318. Have not had any problems till I got home from work today. I pulled on to my street and the engine stumbled then shut off. So I pulled over and it started up with no problem. I have a fuel pressure gauge in line to the carb and it was reading 12psi. I have a Mr. Gasket electric pump from Auto Zone which is rated to 7 psi. Should I just get a pressure regulator? Any other advice would be appreciated.

I'd say check your pump first to find out why it's putting out 12# and no, most carbs don't like anything above 7#'s. Is the electric pump internally regulated or does it just put out what it puts out. Also plug in a new pressure guage, they're cheap, just to make sure the other ain't lying.

good one........ i dont think you had 12 pounds.. i think it the gauge.... at 12 psi that carb would of flooded all over it self (holley=7psi e/carter =5) and i dont think it would start right back up........ was it hot that day... my have stumbled from the fuel getting hot..... if you have a e/carter carb, they do not like anything over 5psi so yes get a reg............. good luck
