I may be swapping out gas tanks on my 72 dart in a few weeks and I have heard that it can be a pain to get the filler neck out. Anyone got any tips before I dive in. Also is there a rubber ring that needs to be replaced?

loosen the filler neck off the quarter and twist the tube from in the trunk. it will come out. also always replace the seal in the tank. just cheap insurance. good luck.

if you squirt the filler tube with penetrating oil where it goes into the grommet, you might be able to get the neck out without damaging the grommet. If you can't have the car down, I'd get a new grommet and sender seal anyway, just in case. Having a helper can make the job a whole lot easier when it comes to balancing the tank on a floor jack if it has any fuel in the bottom. The fuel can slosh around and make it fall off the jack. I use a piece of wood that will fit between the straps and on top the jack to balance the tank on.
