Got a new Truck (new to me)

318 with factory 302 closed chamber heads.

904 trans

8 1/4" rear end with tall gear 2.76 open diff.

95,000 miles from Alabama, so the roof top is not rusted off like the Florida Salt Air does.

Cleanest body I have seen while on the hunt for the next "318" Truck.

The most important first repair to do was to clean out all the old cracked roof drip rail caulking, grind it clean.

Then Prime with high build Primer Surfacer, let dry 1 hour, then reseal the Roof Cap Seam with 3M All-Around-Autobody-Seam-Sealer.

Enjoying cleaning things up. Can hardly wait till the 4 bbl hits the scene.

Complete Truck, not hacked over, original. Just needed an in the tank electric fuel pump. Going to be converting it to a 4 barrel, manual fuel pump so that in the tank pump will not be an issue.

Congrats, that is really nice and weird timing because I was just thinking of buying a 93 D250 kinda like that.

I have always had big block ford trucks so im not sure what to expect from a 360 powered Hauler.

Yours sure makes it look better.

Congrats and I wish you years of happy cruising in that truck.

That was a good find! The interior looks awesome. I have an 88 D100 that I bought in Myrtle Beach several years ago. Same ol TB injected 318 as what's in yours. I'm fixing to put a 98 model 5.9 Magnum in it with a 518 trans and swap the 9 1/4 out to an 8 3/4 with 3.91 SG. Mine's a long bed too, and those beds are longer'n cold weather!
 
Nice truck, man! I have owned a handful of the 80's Rams (and Ram Chargers) and I think they are the best trucks for actual truck use. Not comfy trucks, but tough and easy to work on.

I’m all in for you getting the ‘93 truck. Magnum 360 in that 1993 truck will surprise you in a good way. Those have the larger outlet exhaust manifolds that work almost as well as headers. If you don’t have emissions regulators to work around, add a 2-1/2 dual system or a single 3 inch exhaust with efficient mufflers. You won’t be disappointed! If you want to step up from there, the magnum also responds very well to a chinese airgap conversion to carburetor and a distributor set up with 12 degrees initial and 34 total timing all in at 3500 rpm. Put an LA 360 hydraulic roller or get a hydraulic roller cam core and have an Oregon grind number 1006 put on it. Either will work with the stock valve springs and will give you so much off idle grunt that you’ll be concerned about wringing universal joints out.
 
Common colors but can't say I've seen that color body and that color interior on the same truck

kind a looks like my 88 d150 , but mine is white n rust with stages of primer surfacing , lol . plain is vintage american 200s's with bf t/a's , had to modify the rims to fit those giant hubs on the truck .

@ProjectBazza , yes 200s's where call daisy mags or coke bottle spoke mags , do to the shape of the spoke . but american used that spoke ease were as well . this magnesium rims are in a libra design with four spokes those are a can am rim , i have a pair of 13x6 to match up with these 15x18 , but a have a few sets and sizes of vintage american rims in alum alloy and magnesium .

Let me know what you do for a fuel tank and fuel level sending unit.

Can put in the Fuel sending unit from the 1985 D100 pickups, they had 2 barrel carbs and manual fuel pumps on the trucks in thoses years. Badically a straw and a gas gauge float.

Can get them on ebay for the 20 gallon or the 30 gallon tanks 2 different send units.

Not without the tank. Look at the size difference in the 89 pump/ sending unit and the carbureted truck sending unit.

I have to kind of chuckle as I am jumping through hoops trying to come up with 15" American Racing Wheels that are going to fit the giant hubs and 5.5" wheel lug bolt pattern on the '89.

Large 3.5" center holes needed too.

My '76 was 4.5 bolt pattern so that was a simple bolt on and go.

This is the look ^^^ I wanted for the '89, but not with those big *** odd sized 5.5 axles and hubs. Looked into adapters to go from 5.5 down to 4.5, but now thinking against that, as I will want to do some towing from time to time.

Have decided to stay with the factory wheels, paint them white and then put the Large 10" dog dish hub caps on it like in this picture with new factory correct size tires to work with the tall rear end gears

These ^^^ stock wheels and caps will stand up to the Florida Salt Air and Rain better than the Aluminum Wheels, being 1 mile from the (salty) Atlantic Ocean with outdoor parking and all.

Will be a great simple truck to have ready to go down here, when I come down for the Winter season. Simple to work on should any minor fix need to be done.

Good thinking. I will have to score a used 20 gallon "Factory Plastic Tank" from the earlier '85 era Ram trucks to have on hand.

I had to get one for one of my sons trucks a few years ago, interchange is 81-87
 
I am pretty sure you can simply swap to earlier rotors to get the 4.5 bolt pattern on the front, with no modifications to the brakes. 82-85 rotors maybe? I would think you could do the same with axles and rear brakes. I'm putting an 8 3/4 from an early 70's truck under my 88, but I'm keeping the 5.5 bolt pattern. A few years ago, I got a pair of 8 3/4 truck axles with the 5.5 bolt pattern from @Righty Tighty and will just swap the brakes from the 9 1/4 I'm taking out. Same backing plates and offset. I'm having to go the other direction on the gas tank, to get one that will accept a pump compatible with the MPFI on the 5.9 Magnum going in. You may be able to just modify the tank you have by disabling the pump and straight piping a new pickup while leaving the gas gauge sender in place.

You can take the TBI pump out of the modular assembly that drops into the tank and plumb a piece of fuel line in its place to drop into the bottom of the well of unit. Add a sock filter to the bottom. Helped do this before on several of the TBI trucks.

Sounds like a good idea, use the Original Gas Tank and Keep the Original Gas Gauge when switching over to manual fuel pump setup.
