hey guys i got a tci 121700 manual vavle body its requiers me to change the rear ratio spring my tranny was " built befor the prevs owner clams " now i belever it is my rear band is about a 1inch and a half wide and has now play in it and my rocker ratio arm doesnt drop down like tci clams it should when you looseing the adjusting nut any pictures and help would be great !!!!!!

I've never heard of changing anything on the rear band lever. I assume that's what you mean?? Are you sure you don't mean the front band apply lever needs to be changed? I've heard of having to do that. Or are you talking swapping the spring in the rear servo??

Didn't it come with instructions with any pictures?

BTW: Your posts are extremely hard to make out. Please use periods to separate sentences. Also proof read it. I like to help but dude your making it hard on this old timer.:toothy10:

okayy yeh i will next time sorry about that. Yes it is the rear servo spring i must change the big spring and also drop the cup down and change the inner smaller spring with a shim

The lever arm ratio you refer to is the front band lever arm. The rear band is what got the shim. Most aftermarket apply levers have a ratio stamped on them. The amount of play in the arm, when properly adjusted, should be the same with any ratio arm. Be sure the strut that applies the band is properly seated in both the arm and the band.

The linkage on the rear band lever arm is a bit difficult to properly seat. If thats where the problem is, take a good look at it to be sure the strut is properly positioned. Also, the strut can be installed 90degrees out of place, since its just out of square. Beyond that, a digital image would be helpful to see exactly what you are dealing with.

Ok I see. What mod are you having problem with? Or is it both that's a problem? The rear servo is a bugger to get apart. You have to take the adjuster screw all the way out then pop out the strut rod with a big screwdriver and lots of muscle then when the strut falls out the band will spin around and you can get into the servo to do the mods you need to do on it. That's step 9 in the instructions.

I see they left out the instruction on how to change the front band apply lever if you need to. Nice.:angry7: Before you do anything to the front band lever take a look on the side of the arm and see what ratio it is. If it's stamped 3.8 or 4.2 your fine. No need to change it. If it's anything else you do need to change it and it's not bad. Just back the adjuster screw out completely (it's located on the outside of the case on the drivers side). Then the strut rod and adjuster connector will drop out on it's own allowing the band to spin down and let the apply lever move freely. The next thing to do is take off the starter and inspection cover and look down in the lower drivers side corner inside the bellhousing for a square head recessed pipe plug. You have to remove that plug then the rod that goes through the band apply lever will slide out enough to swap out the apply lever. Then reverse assemble things and seal the pipe plug with pipe sealer. BTW: That pipe plug, if it's the original will require a special size square bit to insert in it to take remove and install it. I used a cheap old 3/8" drive long extension and ground it down to fit. BTW: Sometimes those pipe plugs get stuck in the case so be careful removing it. The last thing you want to do is strip it out. If that's what happens the trans will have to come out to get to it since it's in behind the converter.

okay for step 9 your saying i have to remove the Pin that holds that rocker in place ? correct , that is what i came up with the other night seeing that would be the only thing that can give me enough play and room to move it out of the way. Now here is another problem with that pic it seen to come out one way if im coreect and the tail shaft must be remover for it to come off b/c if only goes in one way so it doesnt float into the transs.

No I didn't say that. I said you have to remove the pin holding the front lever in. Not the rear lever. You do understand your making 2 different mods on 2 different servo's/levers don't you? The rear lever can be rotated out of the way for proper clearance just by removing the strut that connects the band to the lever. You do this by taking the adjuster screw all the way out and using a large long screwdriver to push on the band to tighten it up then pop out the connecting strut. When the strut is removed that allows the lever to drop down out of the way of the servo so you can take the servo apart.

What ever you do don't take off the extension housing and take the band retaining pin out cause it would be extremely difficult to get it back in place.

I drew up a picture that hopefully will clear up some things. Sorry I'm not so good with paint but I think you can make it out. Here you go.
