I would like some advice on a cam for my 78 w200the engine has been rebuilt and i just need to choose a camshaft. It is a stock rebuilt on a 78 440 engine so its still low compression only non stock item are the heads they are 516 heads updated for unleaded gas so i figure with thin head gaskets ill be maybe 8.5 to 1 compression but may be lower. Running 4.10 gears 32 inch tires and a 727 transmission i have not picked a torque converter yet so no stall speed info.

The truck is not for racing or big 4X4 off roading mostly street driving and probably daily driver to work int he winter snow. I just want to to run healthy and i like having a smooth idle, i may add a Holley sniper fuel injection in the future if that make s a difference on choice.I have a new set of stock replacement valve springs so if i can get a cam that will work with those that would be great.
Here are a few of the cams i am looking at suggestions of other cams are welcome i am no cam expert..

Thanks for the link i searched around but somehow missed that thread . No headers just running stock truck manifolds.
Cool enough...Stock manifold 440's seem to like a big split, between intake and exhaust...
Get close to that, (Crane cams are expensive, but REALLY nice ...the 216, 228 @ .050 (274/288 advertised..) on a 114.... Would be my choice....

The 1968 383/335 HP 'Road Runner' and 440/375 'Super Commando'
utilized the same Camshaft.

Lift............. 450"/.458"
Duration..... 268*/284*
Overlap....... 46*

Valve Spring Load-Rate....... #129 lbs. Valve-Closed / #250 lbs. Valve-Open

Would the stock cam be just as good as buying a new cam the machine shop says the original cam looks to be in great shape and still usable. The specs on all the these cams seems to have similar specs to the stock one. Abodybomber i cant seem to find the crane cams with the 216, 228 and 114 i see one with a 112 . Cost of the cam is not a huge issue i have quite a bit of money left in my budget by keeping iron heads . Just want a good healthy running daily driver pretty much and if a little better performance is as easy as a new cam why not but if stock is just as good thats mo money for other stuff.

Search threads by IQ52 and his engine builds that have a lot in common with your build.

For your needs the stock cam will work fine... new lifters and springs would be in order.

You may want to think about getting an adjustable timing set and advancing the timing a bit to get that emissions control retard out of the cam. That would pick up low end performance a bit without any real side effects... 4 degrees would be about right.
