I searched previous threads. I am putting my dart together this weekend. I’m needing help on which transmission fluid to run. The transmission is kind of an unknown. Appears to have been rebuilt and never put back in a car has a b&m? Kit in it . Accumulator blocked and spring removed .I’m running a brand new 2400-2600 stall and a 19 row cooler with -6 lines. Car is going to be aggressively street driven with some mild strip and auto cross action. Mostly bolt on magnum 360. I’ve seen opinions on type f and dextron 3 and even dex VI . I want very firm shifts but I don’t want to destroy anything either. Pics for attention and thanks in advance.

these (the plate kind) do not have a great reputation

While it is out of the car you might want to do a transgo kit, which are highly customizable.

Dex III is what the trans is designed for, and therefore the safest choice, though pretty much anything will work in a 904/727

Ran type F for forty years, not gonna change till I can't get it. Type F will give you the firmest shifts.
Type F is what world renowned Mopar racer GTX John uses, and recommends
If John told me to run olive oil and peanut butter, I'd run olive oil and peanut butter.
Edit: also, PRAYERS for Big John! Had a heart attack recently.

I would run what the manufacturer recommends....
If the engine in front of the trans is making 2500hp, then I might choose a different fluid.....

As for the question at hand, I used that blue Qwik Shift fluid in my trans, but there was a problem with the planetary. When I took it back to my trans guy, he fixed that. I asked him if he saved the blue fluid and he laughed and told me that it was wasted money, and that pretty much any fluid is acceptable in a Chrysler trans that’s used on the street. For the record, I use type F.

ATF 4.

@slantsixdan has an EXCELLENT explanation for it.

ATF+4 will work fine, but that recommendation is decades-old info, obsolete. Dexron-VI (the latest Dexron) is better than ATF+4 in pretty much all the ways that matter to shift performance, hot- and cold-temp performance, viscosity stability, resistance to foaming/oxidation/sludging/varnish, etc.

See attached tech paper, with this breakout list of the compared fluids:

A: Dexron VI
B: Chrysler ATF+4
C: ZF factory fill
D: Honda Z1
E: Toyota WS
F: Ford Mercon 5
G: Allison Transind
