Help with alternator please

I thought I had finally found what I was looking for when I saw this pic in the spitfire headers thread. I wired my alternator up the same and its still not charging. I've deleted the old black box voltage regulator and wired it every way under the sun but can't get it to charge. When I bypass the regulator I get 19 volts so I know the alternator is working. Any insight would be welcome as I have pulled the motor, painted the engine bay, and put the motor back in less time than I have spent on this dam alternator. My only other idea is to replace the regulator if I can find a part number for it.

Try this wiring diagram. I am assuming you are working on a 1969 Dart. This is the diagram for the alternator of that car. Good luck.

What I think I will do is bypass the whole charging circuit and the amp gauge that seems to melt down with the modern alternator. I will put in a trio of gauges on being a volt meter. I can wire the charging system with some stout 10 gage wire and be done with it.
 
Look at this first! The easiest way I found was to just wire across the original regulator circuit and then wire in the electronic regulator haress segment near the alternator. Check out this link to mymopar.com where this diagram is from. Oh yeah ... also run a 14 to 12 ga wire around the gauge (from alternator to battery or starter terminal) when using the higher output alternator or you will melt down the charging circuit. The gage will still indicate charge or discharge without the overload!

Thanks all especially MGUNER! I changed to the new style regulator and followed the diagram. I have a nice 14.5 volt charge with the battery being low. The charging system is now 100% and the gauge still works as well.

Don't trust that gauge for too long. I've seen so many posts on here about the frying amp gauge. It's just a good upgrade to bypass it and use a voltage gauge.
 

get rid of the ammeter and go to a votl meter,,the factory ammeter is usully the problem in all cases after converting to the newer charging system,,
