Hello I have a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger 340. It has powersteering and has a major leak on the p/s box. I have tried to get a new/rebuilt one but all the ones that come in have a larger spline for the pitman arm and come with a pitman arm that looks like it goes into the top of the drag link. The one my car is setup for has a smaller spline and a pitman arm that looks like it comes in from the bottom of the drag link. Other than that the powersteering boxes are identical. I had my power steering box rebuilt by a local but it only lasted a couple of days before it was pouring fluid out of the box. someone told me i have a box that was recalled in the 70s and was replaced with the box i am getting and with a drag link that bolts up from the top. Anyone have any experience with anything like this?

this is a picture i found on the web of how my powersteering system is setup.

the replacement powersteering boxes i am getting have large splines and come with a pitman arm shapped like it would go through the top of the drag link

Welcome to FABO! I'd get the correct box for that year. I know someone makes them.... Firm Feel, Steer and Gear, etc. If your local guy built one and now it leaks, take it back and see if he'll stand behind his work. To change to the '73-up steering box, you'll need all the '73-up steering linkage including, the tie rods, center link, idler arm, and pitman arm.
