Here are the cam specs for my 318.....

There seems to be an onslaught of negativity regarding my choice of cam.
I appreciate all your thoughts and concerns though a lot of the comments aren't much more than bashing.

I'm sure I'll be happy with it compared to my old stock cam.

Well, my opinions on those cams shouldnt be interpreted by you as negative in YOUR particular situation, more that i was pointing out the idea of those is driven by the idea of the "sound"..........If YOU like the sound and performance, thats all that matters, heck, its your car! I say good luck to you sir, nice looking car also!

Not knocking your choice. It's your car and it MUST be done how YOU want it. Anything else would be wrong.

I'm just leery of guys buying off the shelf cams for idle sounds rather than specific output. They do sound cool.

Then you have other people who if the idle is about 700 RPM and not butter smoooooooth they can't drive it. It takes all kinds. Glad you are happy.

Thank you....and don't get me wrong....I'm a newbie to this and appreciate all the help you guys give...and for free no less!
A lot of my decision is based on my friends 68 Charger with a Whiplash cam. ....runs really really strong. First hand experience (ok, second hand!) biased my choice a lot I admit.

By the way...that big *** 68 Charger is running a 318 and if moves pretty darn good!

I admit.

At least you had access to one before you bought. You had a good idea what you were getting.

"The WHOLE sales pitch with those cams are the "sound" I cant think of a more backwards way to pick a camshaft personally."
I agree
But If that's what you are after, then it's all good.
But if you want a quick car, you will want a different cam; one with much faster ramps, and with the cam timing where it should be. A cam like that, with a 223* intake will not be nearly as lumpy at idle. In fact, you will barely hear it. But it will make more torque, right off idle. And it will get better fuel mileage,too..
As for me, I choose a cam to put the power in the rpm that I wish to operate. If it's not enough power, then I need more cubes or more compression, or perhaps both. How it sounds at idle I give no thought to whatsoever.
You see, a streeter has a completley different cam requirement than a race car. A streeter needs off-the-line giddy-up. And it needs the torque to be there in second gear at 30 to 35 mph.A streeter seldom sees high speed.
Now a race car needs POWER. and that comes with rpm. So low rpm torque is sacrificed to get the high rpm power. Then the low rpm torque loss is made up for with gearing. Simple.
With a low compression teener, you have to be very careful with cam selection, cuz you already have two strikes against you. The low compression, and the smaller cube count. The last thing you need is a racecam (not necessarily the Whiplash/Thumper types),that might bleed your Dynamic-compression down into the sevens or sixes.A teener needs to keep the cylinder pressure up, cuz most of it's life will be spent sub-3500rpm, cuz with 3.23s that makes about 35mph in first gear. In second gear, 3500 makes about 60mph.See what I mean?
Now with 4.30s and a 3500 TC, well then you can use the bigger cams. But is that streetable? Only you can answer that question.

MrJLR...... you will get exactly what you are hoping for with that cam.
Two things: It will sound really mean, and it will out perform the stock 318 cam.

Some folks want you to buy the cam that will give your car the very last hundredth of a second off the E.T. slip, but that's not what your building. You want a mean sound that will just outperform your stock 318 cam, and you got it.

I totally agree. And I'm not interested in that last 1/100th of a second!
I'm sure this is going to run pretty strong too.
