I got a Holley 2280, my question is when I give the carburetor gas when the car is off it squirts fuel but stops half way is that normal? Or should it be squirting fuel until the throttle is open fully?
So until it hits wot is should be squirting into both barrelsHolleys will squirt fuel until the piston bottoms. The 4bbls have a spring on the lever that allows the lever to override the pump arm during fast throttle shots so as not to hydro-lock the arm and bend it. The 2280 looks to have the spring forcing the pump down while the arm holds it up, sort of backwards how a 4bbl works. if you get half a shot, unhook the pump link and manually cycle it (push it down) and see if you get more than the arm allows. The arm may be out of adjustment.
Pump shot is to cover the slow reaction of the idle system. This is partly because the idle system works on pressure difference created by manifold vacuum. In many cases, pump shot is done before wide open throttle. So until it hits wot is should be squirting into both barrels
