Houston, we have a great big frickin' problem!!

Got back to it this morning, a very nice day. I had "down to may T shirt" by 10AM

Took out the doors, going to throw away the carpet, got the belts out

........and then used the little Farmall to push it back onto the hoist.

Next is engine / trans. I hope to make a cradle, which I'll use on the 67 as well

Tell ya............Havin the hoist back in operation is almost as good as running into an old friend!!

After lunch I pulled the windshield (cut the gasket with a knife) the antenna, column, and dash.

"Something" is leaking, not sure if cowl, or windshield. Does not seem to be wipers. But floors are not that bad. They are not rusted through. Too bad the trunk / quarters are so bad, and of course, "a moredoor."

What? does that windshield fit? Moredoors and 2 door post?

Thanks Rani.........Don't they fit 2 door post as well?

I do know that the post / ht are different windshields

Rear glass.....what all does it fit?

Super nice job with the lift there - was going to suggest a pair of boat jackstands as a possible workaround to level it off.

As an aside - any chance that speedo cable still works well? (Side thought: "Now ain't that just the right time to ask, when he's got it all apart? Whaddya want him to do, Flintstone the thing to 60 miles an hour?")

The one in my '69 bounces at 35mph, and I'm not really that keen on getting a new one only to chop it down in length (as usual, I'm farting around for what tends to be the most expensive solution - the kind that will probably result in my needing to buy the new one anyway at the end of the day).

P.S.: It's hellishly uncomfortable to see pictures of what looks like your own car getting parted out. My '69 is nearly a dead ringer for that '73, color and all.

I'll keep in mind. I won't need the cable. The cluster / dash I'm keeping. "I may" use it in the 67, as the val cluster is easier to build into than the Darts.

Glad You're OK & got it worked out dude, been there.... it ain't fun, but it was exciting!:)
Old shop I worked previously had a similar lift,no overhead and no arm locks to stop 'em
from swinging out loaded. New owner had that "You worry too much" 'tude, when I'd
mention witnessing the hyd. transfer tube under that floor cover blow My 2nd yr. there,
which promptly sent a '75 olds ninety-eight 4ft. straight to the floor!!!!I was 12 ft away
& felt the air blast, with a pleasant hazy cloud of dirt, brake dust & rust. Later we had a
close call of the cable kind, but for whatever reason, they changed only the one. This
was my concern, which he dismissed until we had an Infinity SUV w/the axles shoulder
high....and it let go. The locks were on(thankfully), but he insisted trying to get it down,
BIG mistake. After he had crushed the step board & creased the top of the dr. door &
roof, I was lashing the arms to the vehicle w/ chains to keep 'em from flying out from
under.......adrenaline was ....well... the worst part is there was another cable hangin'
in back in the cardboard pouch on the wall#-o could've swapped it while it was on the
locks, inconvenient or not. Um,,,,I no longer work there..................

At the Auto hobby Shop, guy put his pickup truck up on the lift. Its bed was off. Well, he was rotating the tires and when he took off the second rear tire, you guessed it, it nosed dived off the lift! It was that balanced! Lift got jammed, Had to use a fork lift to lift the front of the truck to get bind out of lift. Was not a good day for that young Mechanic!

Glad yer safe Del. I had no doubts you would fix it. Great work!

That thing goes down WAY faster, quieter and smoother. It "seems" like it goes down nearly as fast empty as it had been loaded. Of course the wx is warmer.

I put it to good use today!!! I think it hit 70 here today, this is about 10F above normal

Dell,
just saw this thread and Im glad you didnt get hurt. Did you buy the lift new and how old is it? Ive seen lifts break cables before and thats the reason they always want you to drop the car down until it rests on the safety. Then when its off the safetys you are usually behind the post as you said you were. My 2 post lift is now 3 years old but indoors but I look at the cables a couple times a year since they are above the top. The past year I had a friend in the garage business that the mounting studs in the floor rusted thru and snapped and he lost a truck from about 3 ft up. Lucky it wasnt higher!

no arm locks to stop 'em

My neighbor got a FREE!!!! Mohawk. It makes mine look like a toy. I've thought about putting locks of some sort.
