How bad?

Looks like I was right all along. The gasket looks fine to me. At least I get a peek in the cylinders. Now, I am curious about the buildup on the pistons in so few miles( maybe 400). Could it just be from the time it spent running high 10's to low 11's AFR? Or was it sucking oil? I didn't seem to be losing any.
What do you guys think?
I didn't read your whole post initially, but was thinking it might be rich. And now I see it was. I would not sweat it at this point.

As far as the head gasket(s), you are not going to reuse it (them), correct?

It has less than 400 miles on it.
I don't see anything wrong with it other than coolant dripped on it and was immediately wiped off.

So yes, I was planning on re-using it.
I have heard of lots of people reusing 1008's after teardown.

Re-using a head gasket is not guaranteed to work regardless of how many have done so..... may work fine, may not. Same as with an intake gasket. Just hate to see you take it all off again....

I was hoping it was fixed already.
Why would you pull the head and of course it needs a new gasket.
You probably running 10 to 1 and drive it to strip.

Like I said Martin, seeds of doubt.
I was pretty sure I knew what happened, but I had to find out for sure.
At least I got some satisfaction that I diagnosed it right to begin with.
I ordered a gasket.

Thanks for the advice, guys!

Looks like that got it. No smoke on startup, just the usual condensation from a cold start. I put a piece of cardboard behind the passenger tailpipe and let it idle five minutes or so after it warmed up, it stayed dry as a bone.
