How Do You Acquire Summit Discount or Promo Codes Initially (from Summit or elsewhere)?

I see people ask for or offer Summit codes (and I've asked and gotten b4). How do you come across these initially? is it a earned credit from $ spent?, Just random offerings to those with Summit accounts?
I'm thinking about some gauges, Autometer has a rebate offer through June 30, but the rebate isn't much more than my sales tax.
I don't see any mention of how that works on their site. I did (finally after years) create an account with them, even added a "Summit" credit card.
I wouldn't mind being able to be the one offering something back to this community either, after all I've gained from membership here, be it searched, archived knowledge, a good deal, direct help, and even Summit codes.

That said, If someone does have one they aren't going to be using, I would like to get these ordered rather than wait 3 weeks in hopes of Summit throwing me a bone.

Yes, I have gotten one from John before, but that really isn't my question.
I did edit the title because I could see where if you answered quick just based on the title, you would assume I was asking for someone's "spare" code.

I have always wondered myself. I've spent $10's of thousands with them and I don't think I've ever got a code. I stopped using an account though because they screwed my account all up some how and i couldn't get it straight.

If I’m not mistaken, I believe Summit Racing hands them out at races.

Yep, they're available at the track - or at least used to be. I haven't been in a while though, so not sure if they're still doing it.

I grabbed stacks of Summit catalogs at events that they are at and each catalog has a unique discount code.
