This is a pic of my GM HEI distributor for my LA 318. How in the hell does oil find it's way into the housing? Using standard Melling Oil pump with 40 PSI cold. IS oil spraying out of the intake china wall and into the Vacuum advance canister mounting area....? No idea....

there may be a helix on the shaft that brings up oil to the 2nd bearing and possible there is an O-ring above that bearing that is supposed to block the oils travel. could it be shot? notice helix on shaft at 12 and seals 20 and 21

All great replies.. HEI is brand new...Running PVC and no oil in the vacuum line... 10 PSI at idle, 35 at 2500 rpm....I of course cleaned it and will inspect after a couple dozen miles... I wasn't running a PVC for the first 100 miles or so... and the oil did look like it has been sitting there for a while.... let you guys know what I find soon...

Best Regards

Real simple. The distributor seal is bad.

Not running pcv? That will build crankcase pressure. What have you done to open up the crankcase? (breathers)
