How many Dusters were built in 1969?

Whilst I know Dusters were built from 1970 onwards, My Duster has 11/69 on the door and panel and dash parts are stamped 69
I am wondering is there any record of how many Dusters were produced in 1969? I am curious as my car has factory optioned 318 - 903 box, bucket seats with floor console, wood grain inserts on the door cards, black vinyl roof and is In-violet in color. I am guessing not to many were optioned like that and was thinking maybe it was among the first produced. It's a Detroit car that was purchased by a marine who was transferred to Exmouth in Western Australia and took the car with him. (he sold it locally when he left and is how I wound up with it) guessing he arrived approx 1970 served his three years, sold it in 73 to a panel beater named Joe Silla who took a year to convert her and I bought is 1974.
Any info on 69 builds would be appreciated ..

Since the 1970 Duster was a new introduction for the 1970 model year, I would think that there was a lot of them built before the 70 year to fill up the dealers car lots.
 
The start of production usually starts in the prior year. My 71 Demon was actually built 10/70. Not much different than what it is today. They start ramping up production earlier than the model year of the car. 1970 was the first year for the Duster but they would have started production in later 1969. But it would be considered a 1970. I can’t answer the number built in 1969.

Wrong. Back then the new model year came out in September. There are plenty of Dusters with 1969 build dates. His question was how many were BUILT in 1969. He didn't ask how many 1969 Dusters were built.

That was the way I understood the OP question was.

The Plymouth Valiant Duster went on sale on September 23, 1969.
1970-1994 Plymouth Duster cars
All I could find was that Plymouth sold over 200k Dusters for the 1970 model year. Couldn't find any numbers for just 1969.

Thanks for that, at least have a number. Looks like there is no way of knowing how many were actually produced in 69. Thanks for your comments.
 
Usually the next production year started the first week of August. The reason was as mentioned earlier that they needed to fill up the inventory. Start for selling was always around Sept 20-25.
 
The 1970 model year started August 1, 1969 & ended July 31, 1970.

So yes, there would have been thousands of them made in 1969.

I highly doubt that a list showing exactly how many exists.
 
11 of 69 is roughly 1/3 of the way thru the production for the 70 model year, so divide the number of 70 dusters produced by 1/3 and you would be close!

going by this...assuming the plant produced about the same number of cars every day....they had 5 full months of production in 69.......and 7 full months of production in 70....so total number was 217,192 for the 1970 duster sales.....so using my less than adequate math skills roughly 18100 units were made per month....so a educated guesstimate would be 90,500 dusters were actually made in 1969......
 
I'm sure there were many built in 69. Maybe even half of the production run-100,000. But, your combo with the purple is probably rare.
 
Back then the 64 1/2 mustang and 70 1/2 camaro were anomalies.

Now they introduce a new model whenever they want and that's the norm.
 
Just as an example of modern production dates, Kitty's car, our 04 Ford Escape, has a production date of May 2003, yet it is a 2004 model car. It's on the stickers under the hood, the VIN decodes 2004 and the VIN tag on the door says 2004. It's a very early "next year" car.
 
Anything manufactured after January 1 can be sold as the next year. When the Neon first came out (January 1994) I got one, it was labeled a 95. In the past these would have been 94-1/2 as it came out before the normal model year production run.

The 67 Barracuda didn't even start production till late October 66

I think this is why you often see cars for sale listed as the wrong year.

Saw my first Duster at the NHRA Nationals in Indy 1969, also Challengers and Cudas- Dick Landy and Sox were driving- not racers
 
I know my duster was built in the first week of production for the 1973 model year.
There are a lot of 72 and earlier parts on my car, especially interior parts.
I guess the production line used up its old inventory.
 
The start of the 1973 model year was in 1972, so ALL the original parts on your '73 should be '72 or earlier.
 
Yes I know, but it still had the metal sail panels, and the medallians in the seats.
Both which supposivily ended in 72.

I worked at a dodge dealer in Baltimore summers in the late 60s. At the end of the production year you got some really weird stuff off the truck.....
