**How to Lock out Mechanical Advance**

Im with 67Dart273 just find a lean burn dizzy, seems like an inordinate amount of frigging to get this done.

Ok I did some research on the LEAN BURN DIZZY. It seems that you guys are correct, it would be pretty easy to just use one of them............WITF do I find one? I don't have time to go to a pick a part.

If you don't have an O'Reilley's near you I'd think most any auto supply can get one. Have them look up a 78 Fury with a 318 No vacuum advance. That worked for me.

Thanks, Tracy! There is an O'Rielleys here. They just converted a few of the Kragens into them last year.

Well I looked up a 78 Fury on rockauto.com and it is $38.79 for it! Thanks again for the information.

So, your timing was completely off?

if this is directed at me? no my timing was fine..the springs were weak enough to fully advance under increased RPM with the vac advance simply not hooked up. what happened with a big cam was the lack of vaccum in the motor actually held the advance in a retarded position instead of sucking it open..removing the vac line to it and plugging the manifold line solved that problem. it was when i removed the vac diaphram that i tapped and locked the pickup plate...but i do see how the the parts store distributor the others provided as a simple solution since there is no vac advance period...but my way was simple without spending any money spent....to each his own, whatever works.

Nothing wrong with how you did it at all! Great info!
