I have a 318 here with a 904 transmission. I have decided to sell the 318, but I have to take off the tranny. I haven't done this since 1984. Can someone remind me how? Sounds stupid, I know!
Do I just take off the housing bolts and it slides off? Is there more too it than that? There is still tranny fluid in the inside as well, will that stay in the tranny once it's removed or will it spill all over??

Thanks!

I assumme it's out of car??????unbolt the converter from flywheel so it stays in trans, 4 bolts and then bell bolts........you may lose alittle fluid out the tail shaft.....thats about it

How do you get at the bolts for the converter? You take those out first?
The engine/tranny is on the ground, kind of hard to get at from underneath. :munky2:

Just pull the trans off engine....you can pull converter after.......you will lose more trans fluid this way....so have speedy dry ready, I think they are 9/16 bolts.....there is a few that come in from engine side, into trans aswell

Is the starter off?If not, pull the starter and you,ll see flexplate with bolts undo one, take a big flayhead screwdriver and rotate by spinning ringgear to nextbolt undo, spin, next! Then undo bellhousing bolts or reverse unbolting.Bell first then flexplate?Do you have a manual?

I have big hands so i loosened the bell-housing bolts first and got a nice gap to stick my hand in there. Take the 4 bolts off that connect the torque converter to the flex plate. Finish taking the bell-housing bolts off. Make sure to support the trans with some 2X4 blocks or something its heavier then it looks and keep your fingers away so they don't get squished! took me about 10-20 min i took my time through.
