??? How to tell ???

Have a question about how to tell the difference between the 7 1/4 and 8 1/4 rear ends. Have never needed to tear one down to compare. Was hoping I would get a good hit here. Or even a diagram of the two side by side

The 7 1/4" axle has 9 bolts holding the inspection cover on and 2 1/2" axle tubes. The 8 1/4" axle has 10 bolts holding the inspection cover on and 3" axle tubes.
