Ball on right fell apart, off a bayonet shifter.
Ball on left has a different thread.
Ball in red interior is the same design as ball on right, but has same thread as ball on left.

What's up with that?

Some are 3/8 24 and some are 3/8 16. I had a 3/8 16 and ran a 3/8 24 tap in it . Fits and tightens up just fine. Tap the ball don't run a die on the shifter. Some balls take a shoulder nut if they are recessed and some just take a shallow lock nut if not recessed.

So if it's in a 67 and obviously not original, then it's aftermarket, but with a fine thread, and it must be early as threaded insert is not inset and it takes a standard jam nut.

Sounds like a 'rare' Hurst ball, aka good luck to me finding another.

I superglued it back together, wrapped a piece of rubber around it and hung it off the end of the vise to pinch it as tight as possible.

Sanded it down after it dried, hopefully it will hold together another 60 years.
