i have a 340, edelbrock heads , crane 1.5 roller rockers. i'm going to install mp 484/284 cam ,what lifters would be the best bang for my buck. is there any performance difference between the two?

Hydraulic lifters should be okay to around 6K rpm and they don`t require any adjustment if you use the stock valvetrain. If you plan on winding that rascal up like a sewing machine then you might want to go with a solid cam/lifter combo which will require adjustable rocker arms.

That cam grind sounds like a Mopar Performance purple shaft type hydraulic cam from many years ago. The cam should come with lifters or at least have a recommended lifter. With that cam and the springs that Edelbrock supplies on their heads you should be fine using any OTC (like Sealed Power) hydraulic lifters.

Is it a hydraulic or solid lifter cam?

Exactly, you don't want to mix and match.

Another note is that solid lifter cams duration specs need to be about 8-10 degrees larger than a hydraulic to acheive the same motion at the valve due to lash eating up some lift and duration. For example, if I were using a hydraulic cam rated at 230 @ .050" duration and wanted to replace it with a solid lifter cam and lifter set, I would choose a cam rated at 240 @ .050" to achieve the same power and idle characteristics.

Thats a hyd. cam so use hyd. lifters as far as winding that motor up with it,ain't going to happen with that melow cam i ran that same came in a 340 years ago wasn't impressed with its performance at all..

You don't have a choice in the matter, it is a Hyd. cam that needs to have hyd. lifters used with it.

I had that same cam in a very mild 440 years ago and was pretty impressed with it. Ran 13.00 flat through the mufflers and 12.80 uncorked and that was in a 4000 lb Charger.

awsome . thanks for the info. i ran the 340 in a muddrag truck a few years back had the 484/284 in then put in the current 470/270 cam run better for that type of racing. now i have the dart and the 340 going in it. going to put the 484/284 back in.

got a 3500 stall converter, and going to 3.91 gears. this site is awsome!!!!

which 284/484 do you have.

If it's the 108CL cam, put it in at about 102 and it will get some more torque.
