hello guys!

I´m starting to go crazy about this with hyd roller lifters. Which lifter can I use in my LA block witout any modifications? Is it just hughes lifters or does howards retrofit lifters work? I also have J heads. Is it possible to get it to work with the pushrod angle that comes with the hyd roller lifter?

HELP ME!!!

You will not find a better AND cheaper lifter than the Hughes drop ins. Buy them you will not be dissappointed. J.Rob

IF they have retrofit in the name, they should work. The pre- roller block lifter bores were too shallow for the tall OEM lifters, they would expose their oil port in the shallow lifter bores. You could bush your LA block with a taller lifter bore and use OEM, but the cost may be prohibitive (like just buying a roller block instead)

You will probably have to clearance the push rod holes in the heads due to the taller lifter.

With the huges drop in roller lifters, iam wondering on whether or not stock length push rods will work

No you'll need custom push rods for it to work (i highly recommend that you get yourself a set of adjustable rockers).

With the Huges lifters will the pushrod holes need to be enlarged??
Oh dear god yes!!! You need to in order get the proper angle to the rocker arms.
I have a thread about this workin with x heads, ended up with Eddys and opening up the push rod holes.

I doubt you will need to enlarge the holes in the heads. The Hughes lifters have a very nice bevel/cutout machined into the lifter bodies themselves to accomodate the abrupt pushrod angle. I am not 100% on this but I have used them with W2 heads and did not have any pushrod hole issues. If you go to the article at PHR mag you will see a photo of the lifters and can see how they are made. J.Rob

Here is what it looks like before any grinding

I ended up with a set of aluminum eddy heads (60779) because I just couldn't see myself f***ing up a set of x heads.

I had to open up my pushrod tunnels running a hughes roller and the the 1.6 roller rockers on eddy heads.

Now I know it can be done. But does anybody know if howards retrofit lifters will work?? I´m from sweden so it is easier for me to shop everything on summit. And summit doesn´t have hughes lifters.

You'll have to order it directly from Hughes, it is worth it though I have them in my 340

Get a push rod length checker tool and mock up the engine and measure. Comp Cams has a huge selection of off the shelve push rods in various sizes.

If you run a custom ground small base circle cam that will help the odd push rod geometry angle.

hughes knows there stuff and have quality parts, i would recommend them any day
