Have you ever seen a poster or an ad saying that an item was "stolen or missing" and a reward is offered with "no questions asked"?

Now how many knew that it was illegal to do that in Canada?

Advertising reward and immunity

143. Every one who

  • (a) publicly advertises a reward for the return of anything that has been stolen or lost, and in the advertisement uses words to indicate that no questions will be asked if it is returned,
  • (b) uses words in a public advertisement to indicate that a reward will be given or paid for anything that has been stolen or lost, without interference with or inquiry about the person who produces it,
  • (c) promises or offers in a public advertisement to return to a person who has advanced money by way of loan on, or has bought, anything that has been stolen or lost, the money so advanced or paid, or any other sum of money for the return of that thing, or
  • (d) prints or publishes any advertisement referred to in paragraph (a), (b) or (c),
is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

Something to do with by putting "no questions asked" you're allowing someone to get away with a crime.

:wack:

you cannucks have all sorts of weird laws
(but im not going to mention the holocaust here)

Who'd a thunk that in a country where prostitution is legal that you can't advertise and put a price on someone's head... #-o

What's this world coming to??? :dontknow:

I'm not sure anyone could EVER actually get convicted, or even charged with that. "Why?" Because "some ad" some where ..........

1...is not any form of official statement, as in police statement, deposition, testimony, therefore there is NO reason for the poster to "tell the truth." Hell in this country it's legal for cops to mislead persons for the purpose of furthering investigations

2...There might not even be "proof" of whoever actually POSTED the ad, or that on someplace like Craigslist, it hasn't been "hacked."

You are right I had no idea this was a law "anywhere." Plus, LOL, "it's stupid."

well, in Rhode Island it's illegal to sell toothpaste and a toothbrush to the same person on a Sunday...and in Montana if you're in a covered wagon and three or more Native Americans are around you, you are allowed to kill them. Honest.

...so this law makes more sense now lol.

I won't even bother to comment on that one, it might offend someone. :violent1: :happy1:

You have to weigh how many might get offended against how funny the comment is.
Sometimes offending 20 people can be acceptable if the comment is hilarious to 10. :D

Lost: One black puppy.
Reward is offered for return of said puppy.
Puppy can be left on the front porch of my house with appropriate leash where reward is located.
Questions WILL be asked to comply with the letter of the law if the returner is seen.
They are as follows:
Did you use more than one arm to carry the puppy?
How much did the puppy seem to weigh?
Did you provide food for the puppy?
Thank you for the return.

Well I knew this, but our state has no shortage of stupidity..........

"In 1948, the Mayor of the City of Pocatello, George Phillips, passed an ordinance making it illegal not to smile in Pocatello. The “Smile Ordinance” was passed tongue in cheek as a result of an exceptionally severe winter, which had dampened the spirit of city employees and citizens alike. The ordinance unintentionally remained"

Allegedly, here in Coeur d Alene,

"If a police officer approaches a vehicle and suspects that the occupants are engaging in sex, he must either honk, or flash his lights and wait for three minutes before approaching the car."

and

A law passed in 1912 provided that “The carrying of concealed weapons is forbidden, unless some are exhibited to public view.

One has to wonder just how many "some" is considered to be
