But I'm not gonna have one. Don't even have one in the house.

Ran out of cigarettes yesterday and said that was the last one. Man, the craving is getting to me, but I figure the first day has got to be the hardest.

Stop whining, ya wimp.

I stopped, cold turkey 31 years go. After 36-48 hours of not smoking, your physical need for nicotine is gone, over with. After that it's just psychological.

Are you MAN enough to stop? :poke:

Don't make me come up there!!!!!

Actually I stopped for a week once. Got to be such an a-hole Sarah threw five bucks at me and told me to go buy a pack.

Figured if I'm gonna quit, cold turkey is the way to go. Lord knows Chantix and wellbutrin didn't work.

Tough habit to quit. But I would say cold turkey is the best. Good luck!!

hang in there. i quit 15 years ago. in a week or so you will make it a mission. i also stopped drinking for the first month or so it helped also. good luck.

Best of luck !!
I quit cold turkey almost 23 years ago .
One of the best things I have ever done !!

25 years ago for me...cold turkey after having a heart attack at 40 years old. I started at 13 and was a 2 pack a day smoker. Stay strong.

I wish you nothing but the best of luck.
Today I was at the VA and was waiting across from a smoking cessation class.
I heard the comment made that a pack a day smoker could save enough to buy a nice used motorcycle if they quit. If a spouse is a smoker also, then a new motorcycle or quality used car could be bought.
I don't smoke, so I can't relate, but I do wish you luck!

Tomorrow will the 23rd anniversary of quitting for me, cold turkey.

You can do it!

I quit 6 years ago. Best thing I did for myself and my family.
Tell yourself this when the urge strikes: The urge to have a smoke will go away whether you have one or not! We're here for ya. tmm

I was talking to this girl in a bar last weekend and she asked me if I smoked after sex...

I said, "I don't know, I've never looked"....

I'm still not there my friend, even though I did 8mos. in the late 90's. If I'd had children involved at that time, I may have made it. I wish you the best of luck.

Understand completely Robert, actually quit a couple times...once for about 2 years. I had quit recently for 6 weeks, then I broke down due to stress.
Always have a bottle of water handy....the hand-mouth fixation...gum...toothpicks.
Best of luck, once I land back home Im quitting for good.
Up here its called Champix and that stuff works! Great dreams too!!

The math for me, personally:

Two packs a day at $4.82 a pack means $289.32 monthly or $3471.84 annually. And I travel to PA to get 'em because to get 'em in NY would mean that's I'd be paying double. So figure another $20 to go get 'em with a truck that gets 14mpg highway. That's six trips a month, there's $120 in gas a month for $1440 annually.

That's a total of $4911.84 annually figured with today's gas prices.

Seems kinda silly to send damn near five grand up in smoke with nothing to show for it at the end of the year.

Good for you Robert, it's time...chew on straws, take deep breaths and just. don't. smoke.

I appreciate all the well wishes.

I got this.

There's a lot of motivation on my end to kick the habit. So, looking at the motivation I have and the inspiration, I'll be good.

I quit cold turkey just over a year ago when I found out that I was in need of a quadruple bypass (open heart surgery) because of smoking............. think of that and the fact that I lost both my Mom and Dad to Heart Attacks!

Good luck, stay strong, it does get better!

I lost my grandpa to emphysema on Christmas day at 6:00 AM when I was 8 years old. Ruined our whole Christmas.

He also quit cold turkey after his doctor told him that it was killing him, but it was too late. He got tired of going on the oxygen 3 times a day and decided to stop the oxygen, then died a month later.

If you need something in your mouth, try cinnamon toothpick or something similar....

Stay strong, bro. I've never smoked, but I hear that for some people it can be tough.

After spending a few hundred dollars on the patch (to no avail), I'm trying AGAIN to get my son to stop smoking. This time its by reminding him of his grandmother (who he was very close to) who died of cancer at 61 and his little baby girl who is growing up around his smoking.

Some say that using his grandmother and child as a lever might be playing dirty, but I don't give a ****. My son's long life (as well as my granddaughter's) is worth far more than someone's opinion of my tactics. He also cannot smoke in my home. He must also wear smoke-free clothing in my home. He must also wash his hands, wash his hair, and brush his teeth before he enters my home.

Yul Brynner made one of the first anti-smoking ads that struck something with me. It was kind of creepy that he was speaking from the grave about what killed him.

That is just figuring gas so by the time you add up the actual cost of driving to PA 72 times a year it will be even cost more. How many hours of your life do you waste driving to PA 72 times?

I wish you the very best when it comes to quitting this dangerous habit.
