I have a good 904 core. I know the 904s are better for racing if built right. What or who do I need to get to build it. I know in high school I ran a 904 it and it was faster than the 727. Please help

Get "the book" by Munroe:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Torqueflite-727-Transmission-Handbook-HP1399/dp/1557883998"]Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook HP1399: How to Rebuild or Modify Chrysler's A-727 Torqueflite for All Applications: Carl Munroe: 9781557883995: Amazon.com: Books[/ame]

Also order the appropriate ASTG book. I discovered they were cheaper on the 'bay than direct from ASTG

And don't forget Chrysler factory shop manuals, some of which you can download right here or from MyMopar

Some of the earlier links are broken, have been fixed later on.

You can download a 66 and 70 manual from MyMopar:

the video for the 727 is the greatest tool for a 727 rebuilding..

If you want to bring it to Tuscaloosa, Huey Smalley at Smalley's Trans is an old drag racer and can beef it up for you. I think he charged me $550. He is right off 15th street. Give him a call, Joe

You by any chance have his number? That's not a bad price. I was looking at 1k or more online and was scared because I don't know there work. Thanks Mark. And ROLL TIDE!

i am waiting for a pump alignment tool....

What ? how can you mis-align the pump ?
I built mine last year and have a thread about it some where , I used the 727 videos from the guys at NSW transmissions that are now posted here on FABO , put it behind 524hp and drove it 10,000 km + round trip this summer ,I had never even seen the inside of one before trying this one , most important I think is to get a good billet steel front drum to make it bullet proof with the re-located ring groove to accommodate an extra friction , I got mine here in Canada from TCS products in Langley BC and it wasn't cheap around 500 plus the race rebuild kit for around 200 and 10 bucks for a different rear seal than the one in the kit . -Peace of mind to drive my car anywhere at any speed -Priceless .

Somebody didn't have that one bolted in, across the bottom, completely! Only way I can imagine it breaking the case, that way.

There is a band that looks like a giant hose clamp, and it locates the two halves of the pump before you tighten the bolts that hold the two halves together.
It can be done pretty easy without it, but it is kinda nice to not have too.
That broken trans is from incorrect mounting (like all the bolts not in the bell, or possibly the bell to block braces not being there.)

This is what a drum explosion tends to look like.

I rebuilt my 904 a couple of months ago (for sale now actually, my 360 is coming out and being replaced with a 440).
Easy to rebuild, I spent 300 for everything, the rebuild kit, a new rear band (not included in the kit but, I wanted to replace it anyway) and a Transgo TF-2 shift kit in it.
