67 barracuda with chrysler electronic ignition, 4 pin ballast. hooked up an msd digital 6 al box just like msd tells you to and the car wont start? anybody go through this before?

Yes I have. I had wired my switch wrong initially. It was hot with the key on but didn't have power when cranking the engine. Found the right wire to make sure the box had fire even when cranking and all was well. Do you know for sure it's a good box?

if you are positive its wired up correct then test the box, pull your coil wire out of the distributor, lay it near an intake bolt, unplug the magnetic pickup wire, strip both ends of two pieces of wire, stick one wire in each side of the magnetic pickup wire, now turn the key to the run position, touch the ends of the two wires together that you just stuck in the magnetic pick up wire, then take them apart, each time you touch them and break the connection it should throw a spark from your coil wire

yep ^ this is from MSDhelp.com

This is an easy procedure that will confirm that your 6-Series Ignition Control and Coil are functioning properly.

Remove the coil wire from the distributor cap. Position the terminal so it is about ¼-1/2 inch from a good ground source such as the head or intake manifold.

With the engine off, locate the trigger source wiring. This is either the White wire of the MSD or the two pin magnetic pickup connector. Disconnect the wire that you are using from the distributor. Next turn the ignition key to the on position – do not crank the car.

If you are using the two pin magnetic pickup, use a paperclip or wire to short the two wires, violet and green, together and apart quickly. Repeat this procedure rapidly. Each time the connection is broken, a spark should jump across the coil wire to ground.

If there is a spark, the coil and the ignition are working properly. If there is not spark, it is recommended to replace the coil and repeat the test. If there is still no spark, confirm that the ignition is receiving 12 volts on the small red wire, as well as on the heavy gauge Red wire. Also verify a quality ground. If the wiring checks okay, the ignition box will need to be repaired.

If you find that your ignition is at fault, it will need to be sent to MSD. Please obtain an RMA number from MSD before sending in the unit. This can be done online here, or by calling an RMA clerk at 915-855-7123 during regular operating hours of 8 – 5, Mountain Standard Time.

Did you keep the ballast? MSD does not need a ballast resistor. With the MSD, you are supposed to tie the IGN 1 + 2 wires together (start/run) which results in 12 volts to the coil triggered by the box. Normally, the ballast would bridge the gap between the two ignition stages because the OE system did not feed full voltage to the coil in the start position. The old MP electronic box didn't mess with that part of the system, the MSD needs the full voltage though.

And #2. This is like my MSD no start thread response mantra;

Try switching the polarity of the pickup wires.

It is in the MSD instructions but you have to read between the lines a little. If the polarity is wrong, the distributor can be advanced or retarded 40 degrees which could obviously result in a no start.
