I wanted to use my phone in my car for music more since I frequently use it for turn by turn directions because the Dart is my service vehicle when I make computer related house calls.
(Yep I get paid to drive a classic hot rod)
Anyway, I have a Kindle Fire Color wireless touch screen in the car right now that is connected to my stereo for music storage and playing, but I have to take it out of the car and/or connect it to a laptop to add or change music.
It is wireless capable so it connects to the internet via my wireless network, has turn by turn also, but only if in range of a hot spot.
BUT you can not access it or transfer to it wireless, as it requires a physical connection to do this.
This requires that I use my phone as a hot spot, and use data from the phone company anyway if I use internet where there isn't any hot spots available like when on the road.
The HUGE drawback to using the phone was that in order to transfer music to it the common way was to use ITunes and have the phone connected to the computer to "sync" it.
I HATE ITunes, and I don't want it on my computer and never have, not to mention the sync function is slow as hell.
This is one of the main reasons I used the Kindle mounted on a flip down bracket mounted in front of the rear view mirror.
I flip it down, start a playlist and flip it back up and it worked ok.
Finally I found a way that works so I can use the Iphone for music just as easily, but with perks.
There is a free program/music player called Oplayer from the App store.
It lets you use a browser on your computer to connect to your phone through your local wireless network and gives direct access to the Iphone to literally drag and drop music to the phone no matter where it is, as long as it is in range of the wireless network.
Now I have to make a cradle for the car which will connect the phone to a charge source as well as connect it to the stereo at the same time when the phone is inserted into said cradle.
At this point I will be able to leave the phone in the car, take it out, or set it down anywhere within range of my wireless and transfer music to it directly without needing ITunes and connecting it to the computer.
The kindle is leaving and the phone will do everything through the stereo.
(music, turn by turn with voice and visual map, as well as phone calls right in front of me on the dash) without looking away from the road at all, which I never did anyway.
Before I would have to hold my phone up where I could hear turn by turn clearly with the car running, but now my turn by turn will be over the stereo and music will even mute when I get a phone call
Since the new cradle will have charging also, my phone will be fully charged when I get out of the car and take it with me.
I love it when I find solutions.
Here's a link to the Oplayer directions for connecting via a wireless network.
No worries as it is very simple.
