I keep seeing notes in the product specs for new heads, intakes, etc…. That say compatible for 383’s ‘66-72…..will there be issues with my 65 383 block accepting things like new aftermarket stuff?
Here is an example from Edelbrock for their intakes…..says 1958-…… in title but 66-72 in description. Or am I reading it wrong?I keep seeing notes in the product specs for new heads, intakes, etc…. Yes, I also saw the verbiage in the description that says 1966-…… hence my question. You do see where it says
“1958-1979 B series”, right?
Makes sense. I was thinking it might have something to do with the valve train.Cam kits show as fitting 67 and up. The reason is that the lifters in pre 67 big blocks had a smaller cup and used a pushrod with a tapered end and a smaller ball on the lifter end and standard size ball on the rocker end. I ran into that on my 66 361. Luckily Kim had a brand new set of early style Johnson lifters. I could have used newer lifters if I had switched to newer style pushrods which had the standard ball size on each end.
