It finally happened here

Last year one of my friends was the first at the scene of a bike crash, the guy was just flying and didn't make the turn, he spoke with him briefly and then he died. He was in his early forties so it isn't restricted to young people.

No it is not just youn people. And not just street racing. A lady rolled her SUV just past my house two weeks ago. Here arm went out the windo and got cruched under the SUV. It took them a few houers to cut here out. Found out latter that she was texting on the cell phone while driving:angry7: Only had a mile and a half to go and she would have been home.

One of my pet peeves for years have been the media reporting all illegal street racing as 'drag racing'. Don't get me started on this rant.

Frank - so sorry to hear about your son. Your family will be in our hopes, thoughts, and prayers.
I count myself extremely fortunate that I've been 'down' 3 times on bikes and never been injured. Only 1 of the 3 was my fault as I was much younger and playing 'road racer' up in the local mountains. Lucky the only thing damaged - and totaled - was my bike.
Took the experience and still riding today but much more careful. Now I have no tolerance for crotch-rocketeering or crazy ricers in their so-called 'rice cars'. "Hondoids" - I like that, the name fits.

Yep. Same thing for those crotch rockets. I love motorcycles. However, I think you should have to be at least 25 before getting a crotch rocket.

I wanted one at 19 and, thank God, I couldnt afford it. My son wanted one at 20 and now he is in a coma.

I came back to add this point.

Anyone who has a kid who street races, etc. Send me a PM and I will send you before and after pictures of my son.

He went from a strong 21 year old defending his country in Iraq to laying in a bed with tubes and hoses and being fed through a tube.
(Four months today)

Franktiregod...reading about your son deeply saddens me, so sorry to hear of your boys accident. I cannot imagine the pain your family must feel, if you can use your sons accident to educate other young folks about the reality of speed and power you are doing a good thing. Thoughts and prayers for you and family at this difficult time.

I should have known the response this thread would get. I agree with all of you.
Frank, that is a very sad thing that has happened to your son and the rest of your family. I can only hope that that you are strong and work your way through it.
Doing burnouts on a country road with no traffic is one thing. Mashing the pedal on busy city streets or urban areas is something else altogether. I have never been in an accident when I was speeding but was almost killed (they brought me back from the dead) when a guy backed a rig out of his driveway on the far side of a blind knoll from me. I ended up over a cliff.
I am very carefull where I mash the pedal nowadays. The last thing I want to do is hurt somebody else or leave my wife as a widow.

Jack

Thank you to everyone for your thoughs and prayers.

I see these kids blow by me at 100+ miles per hours and I just ask God to watch over them. They have no idea how many people are affected by their actions.

Imagaine the feeling you get when you are told someone you love has died. That "punched in the stomach" misery. Well we get to live that about 50 times a week. Now, ask yourself, would you like to see your mom, dad, or wifes face while they live through that?

We have been told many times that my son wouldnt live another 24 hours or wouldnt make it throught the night.

Acting a fool in a car or on a bike may seem like "fun" to these kids. Let me tell you what is NOT fun. Buying a cemetary plot for your 21 year old son while he lays in a hospital clinging to life or having to make decisions about removing life support and organ donation. Yeah real fun.
