Jumper Wire to coil

-
So the bottom line is what was accomplished by jumpering to the coil positive?

For the starter to work, the starter relay must be triggered by S1 (yellow at the relay) going hot with key in start. This can be done through the emergency bypass (connecting S2 yellow with stripe to S1 yellow), or through the seatbelt interlock.

For the engine to fire up during start, the J3 (brown wire) needs to go hot. This is a seperate circuit from the starter switch. While it does havea branch to the interlock box, that branch should be irrelevant to the whether the ignition is getting power during start. Key in start, J3 at the coil should show the same voltage as the battery. J3 also feeds power to the ECU during start.

If neither J3 or S1 is getting power with key in start, then it seems to point toward key switch.
