I'm ready to finish up my engine build. The kevco pan has an odd finish on it. Does it last? or should I paint it? It would be a lot easier now. I'd like it to look nice for a while. Thanks

I painted the one on my last engine, and plan on doing the same to this one. It'll fool the unknowing, at least at first glance.

PAINT

Get rid of the stickers, if ya don't paint it.....unless it was a free pan.

Looks like some type of zinc plating. If you're that curious, give Kevco a call. Not sure how long it'll last, but I'd paint it just because it'll look better.

Everything gets painted on my engines except the intake, air cleaner and valve covers.
I like to hide as much as I can, a 451 disguised as a 383. I wish there was a way to hide the cylinder heads, paint doesn't do it. lol

Thanks for the replies. I picked up this pan at a speed shop close out with the pickup for $100. I like the color, but I have some Semor aluminum primer and paint left over from the intake and heads. I think I'll paint it. Again thanks for the input and picks

if you like the look of the finish it came with but don't want it to tarnish just 2k clearcoat it. i've 2k clearcoated various polished metals and had no issues with it peeling, it's only like clearcoated aluminum wheels so.....
neil.

Neil good idea, I do like the finish. I just don't want it to rust shortly after it's in the car. If I clear coat it, I don't have to be so careful about overspray. I also get to keep the sticker - " wich im sure adds at least 15 HP lol"

It's zinc plated. Just depends on how you'll use it. It'll easily last as long as the paint. Will it stay show car clean and fresh forever? No. But. Nothing does so there's that.

Honestly though for anything short of a short car... Who cares? Lol

Great deal !
I painted the one on my Dart and left the Barracuda as delivered. The paint doesn’t weather as well as I hoped but if you prep it properly and use a gun and automotive paint it should work much better.

it lasts too, i've clearcoated a few cheap chrome oil pans and they just need a quick wipe with a cloth (and polish if you're fussy) to bring back the lustre when dirty.
